Ambassadors:

THE FIRST SIX YEARS

By Stirling Munro Editor

The Ambassadors Drum and Bugle Corps started the wheels of history in motion in the fall of 1973. The practices were at Aurora High School from seven to nine on Mondays and Thursdays. The winter was as uneventful as any winter, we spent most of the time trying to get this little unit ready to perform.

On June 30th, 1974 the Ambassadors Drum and Bugle Corps marched in the "Maid of the Mist" parade in Niagara Falls, New York. In this parade the Ambassadors won the first of many awards, it was awarded to us as the "Most likely to Succeed Corp", (if only they could see us now).

The next event on the calendar was the Aurora July 1st parade followed by the Aurora Christmas parade.

In 1975 the corps moved into competition in the "E" category. The year ended well with our very first National Championship under our belt.

In 1976 we were just as successful. The Corps moved into the "D" class and again the National Championship came home to Newmarket/Aurora.

The success of the corps spread through the towns and the next summer we began to travel on two buses. The success of the corps was only satisfactory in the year of 1977. We gained people, we moved into "C" class, but we didn't bring home our third Championship. All year we fought it out hard with the Coachmen [Keswick, ON] for fifth place.

Going into 1978 our spirits were down but with hard work, all day practices, and a never give up attitude we cleaned up the "C" circuit. We won every competition but one that year,
