election '80

 It seems that at this time of year, everyone is having an election of some kind. The government, as well as the Ambassadors have to make some important decisions.

The government is still trying to decide about their elections, but not the Ambassadors. On Monday, December 18th, 1979, the annual elections for positions on the corps council were held.

After roll call, the members that were present, assembled in a cramped classroom within Stuart Scott Public School. Bev Ranson started off the evening explaining what the corps council actually does.

After her speech, the nominations proceeded.

The drum line was asked to nominate eight responsible members that would fairly represent the line as a whole. After a secret vote, the 1980 drum line representatives are;

1) Kevin Harman

2) Stirling Munro

3) Wade Readman

4) Tim Jones

The colour guard then had to nominate six members to carry a position on the council. When the votes were tallied, the representatives on behalf of the colour guard were;

1) Shirley Ann O'Neil

2) Gwen Perrault

3) Chris Lytle

Then came the horn line. This line is always the hardest to do because of the amount of people needed. Since it's the largest line in the corps, it has to have more people to represent it. They were asked for twelve nominations, and after the votes were counted, the six members chosen from those nominated, were;

1) Sam King

2) Carol Christian

3) Andrew Parks

4) Matthew Jones

5) Tim Fallows

6) Carolyn Fallows

Kelley Lacey and Leanne Bassett are automatically on the council because they are colour guard commander and drum major. Therefore, there is a total of fifteen people on the council.

The council than had to decide on an executive, to be spokemen for them. Stirling Munro was chosen president for the second year; Kelly Lacey was appointed secretary for 1980; and, Chris Lytle was selected as the treasurer for this season.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome any new members into the finest council any drum corps will ever have.
