The rabbits to the right are just some of the hundreds available at the
Small Animal Rescue Society of BC (SARS BC).
There are literally more rabbits than there are homes.
SARS-BC alone has over a 150 rabbits currently in foster
care. Many of the people who foster rabbits provide care
for several rabbits at a time as there aren't enough
foster homes to go around. Compounding the situation are
the hundreds of rabbits throughout the GVRD that are
housed in various local shelters and other rescue
organizations along with dozens of rabbits being
surrendered or requiring new homes each and every day.
These rabbits have been abandoned, abused or just simply
unwanted as a result of people being unable to care for
them or unexpected pregnancies. There are Netherland
Dwarf, Holland Lop, Mini Lop, Dutch, Lion Head, Mini
Rex, Rex, New Zealand White, Florida Whites, Flemish
Giant, French Lops...you name it, they probably got it.
The rabbits range from the very young to the very old.
There are healthy rabbits and rabbits requiring special
needs.
If you want a rabbit or are thinking of getting a
rabbit. Stop! Think About It! Ask Questions! And
when you are absolutely sure you are able to make a
minimum 10 year commitment to a rabbit .... PLEASE
ADOPT A SHELTER RABBIT!.
