Cage Sizes & Primary Enclosures
Note: As outlined by the USA Code of Federal Regulations and as far as I have been able to ascertain Canada’s regulations correlate to those in the USA.
Primary Enclosures Specifications All primary enclosures/cages must conform to the following regulations:
1. Be structurally sound. 2. Allow the rabbit to be kept clean and dry. 3. Provides convenient access to food and water. 4. Floors are constructed to protect rabbits legs from injury. 5. Solid floors enclosures must be supplied with litter/bedding. 6. A suitable next box with clean nesting material for does with a litter of kits under the age of 1 month (for rabbits). 7. Meet the cage size specifications.
Outdoor Hutches Primary outdoor enclosures must provide the following in addition to the specifications outlined in “Primary Enclosure”.
1. Shelter from sunlight and adequate access to shade. 2. Shelter from heat, when temperatures exceed 90ºF artificial cooling must be provided. 3. Shelter from rain or snow to allow rabbits to stay dry 4. Shelter from cold weather when the temperature drops below 40ºF 5. Protection from predators 6.
