TEAM SWUNK NEWS

Does Qualifying Count?

That's what the Hornet thinks.  Someone better tell him otherwise.  As well as the Hornet rode on last Sunday.  It was all for not.  As he proved to everyone, and especially himself, that he can actually ride in the wet.  Sundays conditions again were rain, the same as round 1.  Only this time, the Hornet looked much more comfortable riding in the wet.  That was maybe the problem.  He seemed to feel to good.  After practice was over, I overheard him in the pits saying that the wet didn't bother him and that he could "ride" in these conditions.  Well, that "ride"  became "slide" all to soon.  In the first qualifier, 50 Mod, the Hornet did not get as good a start as he would've liked.  And it proved costly.  He was on the second row in  qualifying, only to be relegated to the third row in the 50 Mod Main.  In the stock 80 class qualifying the Hornet again was on the second row in 5th spot on the grid.  His start seemed much better in the qualifier.  He seemed to keep that "Number 1 Rider" position on Team Swunk as he was ahead of the Razor who had worked his way up the field from about 12th spot to 6th, right behind the Hornet.  This is where maybe the Hornet started to get a little over confident.  With about  2 laps to go ( and the Razor coming on strong) the Hornet turned "ride" into "slide".  Coming down the back straight entering the right hand hairpin, the Hornet got a little to "Happy" on the brakes and lost the front end.  Down he went as the Razor slipped by the carnage.  The Razor had just barely finished giggling when his throttle stuck and he decided to see how fun it was to slide in the wet since it looked so fun when the Hornet went down.  The Hornet tried to get back into the race.  4 TIMES!!  Then finally, he turned the ignition kill switch to "on" and finished last.  OOPS, I mean 2nd to last.  Don't take that spot away from the Razor as he went straight to the pits and didn't even finish the qualifying. Congratulations on starting the Main race from row 6 in last spot.  LOSER!!

Saving the Best For Last?

There's a lesson to be learned here somewhere.  Oh yeah, the Hornet now knows that the actual race is during the Main Race.  Not the "Qualifying".  Hmm, I guess that's why they call it qualifying.  Oh well, he is young ( and for all you ladies out there,  SINGLE)  Anyways, in the stock 80 Main, it looked like Team Swunk was sunk.  But the Razor proved otherwise as he started in last spot and after getting a great start he was 7th coming out of the first corner!  No frills and no spills for Razor.  He was all business.  I mean, the Number 1 spot had to be regained.  And the Razor did not disappoint.  After finishing I think about 5th in the Stock 80 class.  He then went on to finish about 5th again ( I can't remember, I'm still wondering where Cara was.  Oops, inside joke)  Therefore, regaining the Number 1 rider spot on Team Swunk.  Well, at least for this month.  We'll have to wait and see what response the Hornet has in store for next race.  One thing will be for certain, the Hornet won't be using up all his energy in qualifying. Cause he's gonna blow his load in the Mains.
