SOME COMMON COMMANDS

Come by...
Dog to move clockwise around stock.

Away to me...
Dog to move counterclockwise around stock.

Down or Lie Down...
Dog to stop or lie down.

Walk Up or Steady On...
Dog to approach stock. Steady or easy or take time.

Get Back...
Dog is too tight should move off stock.

TERMS USED IN SHEEP DOG TRIALS

Outrun(20 POINTS)... Dog is sent left or right. Should go wide and beyond the sheep before approaching.

Cross-over... Dog crosses between sheep and handler on outrun. Automatic loss of points.

Lift(10 POINTS)... Dog's approach of sheep at top of outrun. Should be quiet, steady with dog in full control.

Fetch(20 POINTS)... Bringing sheep to the handler. Should be on a straight or near straight line.

Driving(30 POINTS)... At completion of fetch, dog moves sheep in a diagonal to left, toward and through gate No. 1, then horizontally across field to and through gate No.2.

Shedding(10 POINTS)... Separating two sheep from bunch by dog.

Single Sheep(10 POINTS)... Splitting one sheep off (usually marked).

Penning(10 POINTS)... Dog herds sheep into small pen. Handler cannot release rope tied to gate during penning.

Gripping... Dog biting sheep. Unnecessaly gripping causes loss of points or disqualification.

Eye... Amount of concentration on sheep dog shows. If too much eye - "Sticky" - if too little eye -"Loose-Eyed".
