CLIENTS
"A survivor of childhood incest, I felt crazy and lost all
of my life. When I took Sara's trauma group, I finally understood
that the abuse was crazy...not me. I felt such tremendous relief in
understanding the theory and impacts of trauma, and in having a roadmap to
navigate the healing journey. Knowledge is power, the power to undo
and redo, and the education I received in the group has freed me from the
past and given me firm footing for the future". Alexandria, 38
The Gift (A poem
by Alison to express how she felt about the group)
What brought me to
a place so safe for healing? I am so thankful.
Our strength and
beauty blend, listening to each other. Here there is compassion, the
feeling of hug, surrounding body, the understanding that was needed so
many years ago.
Our hard walls are
down to let this in--truly.
On a blank canvas
we have painted a picture of our tools, our metaphors, our needs and
dreams.
Shapes and colours
with meaning for life. From my cold belly and shaking legs I feel
myself rise to stand tall. This safety, beauty all around and
clearing vision can remain with each of us. We can feel joy.
"I resisted the idea of counselling for decades, sure that
counsellors had little to offer me with all their glib theory. A
desperate turn in my life brought me to Sara, who demonstrated compassion,
wisdom, knowledge, and a steadfast belief in me. Together, we
uncovered my strengths and resiliency, and through the work, I found the
courage to solve my crisis and reclaim myself. Next time, I won't
wait!" Sharla, 56
"Sara practices a kind of whole body listening that is so
profound that I've learned to hear myself. Speaking with Sara puts me in
touch with my inner wisdom; she is a powerful witness and ally in the
development of my identity". Naomi, 23
"After my nervous breakdown and subsequent stress leave
from work, I felt I could not go back to face my colleagues. With
gentle empathy, Sara lead me in an exploration of these fears, helping me
connect to the underlying shame and self-doubt, a legacy from a difficult
childhood. A combination of cleaning out those old closets and
acknowledging my many gifts and talents brought back my confidence and
enthusiasm to return to work". Alan, 48
"Sara speaks trauma. If you've experienced an overwhelming and
incapacitating event at any stage of your life...go learn the language of
trauma so that you can overcome it and thrive". Paul, 32
