Knitting Patterns

If you're thinking about buying one of our kits, you can look to see if you're comfortable working with these patterns. Click on one of the links below.

If you purchased one of our early kits but haven't got around to knitting it yet, you can check to see if we've updated the pattern. We're always trying to improve the patterns to make them easier to understand. The revision date (written Canadian style) appears in the bottom left corner of the page.

These patterns are especially suitable for variegated, textured yarns. The row of stitches being worked on is always on a diagonal and therefore the colours are in diagonal stripes. This also causes a wonderful bias drape. The large needle size gives the scarf its lacey appearance as well as making it a "quick knit". The knopfs in our yarn naturally fall into the loops of the stitches where they act like a button in a buttonhole. This keeps the structure stable and prevents skewing or stretching.

Naturally we'd like you to buy our kits. If you want to use our patterns with your own yarn, go ahead by all means. Keep in mind that the texture of our yarn is what keeps the scarf stable. The patterns will work with a very thick yarn but the ridges and ribs will be more obvious. And don't forget, our customer assistance plan is for customers.

Washing and Blocking

Soak in lukewarm water and shampoo for at least ½ hour. Squeeze out gently, then rinse in lukewarm water with 1 tsp vinegar. Rinse again in clear water. Squeeze out gently and roll in a towel. Let sit in the towel for 10 minutes. Lay out on 2 thicknesses of towels (2 bath towels folded lengthwise and placed end to end works well for this). Pat into shape, making sure edges are straight. Let dry.

List of Patterns

Bias Garter Stitch Scarf

This is the easiest pattern to knit. There is only one purl stitch in the entire scarf. Other than that it's just knitting. The garter stitch has a slightly ridged appearance, barely visible with our fine, textured yarn. The edges of the colour stripes are more pronounced with this pattern.

Bias Fisherman's Rib

This pattern also has only one purl stitch but the knitting is a little more complex than a regular rib. The ribbing is almost impossible to see with our yarn. The edges of the coloured stripes tend to blend into one another with this pattern, giving a more subtle appearance.
