Refrain
I've seen a hundred years of days by looking through your eyes
And now it's gone a hundred-one ~ you always said time flies
I thought I'd catch you up a bit on what's been going on
And sing another song or two ~ how the years have gone
And remember all the tunes we sang when you blew the Caddyhorn
In your basement warm with cracklin fire against the storm
It's been a while and a mile or two since I've talked to you
And things have changed and stayed the same ~ gotten better and worse too
We had a lot of hope that your story would inspire
And maybe light some asses on fire
It opened a few eyes, showed them what they might find
To put out that burning fire behind
They covered their butts, you know they barely felt the pain
I guess they think our loss is their gain
The only glimpse I've caught of that ghost the IHA
Is the finger or a wave, I just can't say
They closed down that bed where you spent your last days
And hardly an eyebrow was raised
They laid off that nurse that you thanked for her care
She's gone on a wing and a prayer
They mortgaged your grandchildren's future and beyond
For Olympics our future was pawned
But the only gold we'll see as they say that they've served
Is the handshake they'll say they deserve
I tried to think of things that are better and not worse
But everywhere I turn I see that nurse
And as I ponder more and more I'm coming to believe
Your timing could not better be achieved
So here's a toast to you and a wish for one-o-two
That we will wake to what we're headed to
And tell them that's enough of their contempt and disdain
And to govern for the people again
Final Refrain
I've seen a hundred years of days by looking through your eyes
And now it's gone a hundred-one ~ you always said time flies
I thought I'd catch you up a bit on what's been going on
And sing another song or two ~ how the years have gone
And remember all the tunes we sang when you blew the Caddyhorn
In your basement warm with cracklin fire against the storm
It's been a while and a mile or two since I've talked to you
And things have changed and stayed the same; gotten better and worse too
Things have changed and stayed the same only much worse than I knew
