Volunteer Hours

As you know, RPFSC is a parent-run Club.  We hire professional coaches but all club operations are carried out by parent volunteers.  Everything from registration, accounting, shows and test days are run by parent volunteers.  The more people involved, the more we are able to do and the smoother things will run.

We do not require a deposit cheque for parents of CanSkaters.  We wanted to recognize that often parents of CanSkaters also have toddlers or babies and that it is often difficult to volunteer on lesson days with younger children in tow! However, we ask that each CanSkate parent commit to some volunteer work throughout the year, such as helping with a special event.

Parents of all other skaters are asked to do 6 hours (StarSkate I) or 6-8 hours (StarSkate II and Senior Skaters).  Families with skaters in these groups will be required to submit a postdated cheque for $50 which will only be cashed if parents do not volunteer.  The progressive volunteer requirements reflect the increased amount of commitment on the part of the skaters as well as the increased commitment on behalf of the Club to the skater.

 Summary of Parent Volunteer requirements:

  •  Parents of CanSkaters:               4 hours suggested  (no cheque required)
  • Parents of StarSkater I skaters:   6 hours  ($50 deposit cheque required)
  • Parents of StarSkate II skaters:   6-8 hours  ($50 deposit cheque required)*
  • Parents of Senior skaters:           6-8 hours ($50 deposit cheque required)*

 * Skaters who volunteer as Junior Programme Assistants may put their hours towards their family's volunteer hours.

A sign up list for  volunteer jobs will be available at all registration sessions and during lessons.  Parents will be asked to submit a record of their volunteer hours/job(s) to verify hours volunteered.

 Volunteer Opportunities:

 1. With the success of last year's event, RPFSC will again have a "swap meet" on Saturday, September 19th from 9:00 am to noon.  We are looking for 2-3 volunteers to organize this event and recruit volunteers to help.  If you want to knock off some of your hours (or maybe all!!), please contact our Club President, Maureen Wicken.

 2. We will have a table at the "Sharing Our Wealth" festival at Douglas Park on September 20th from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. We are looking for 2-3 volunteers to man the table and promote our programs.

3. Our long-time and hard-working Treasurer has indicated to the Board that 2009/2010 will be his last year. Therefore, we are looking for a parent to "shadow" our Treasurer this year with the intent to take on the role for 2010/2011. If anyone is interested in volunteering for this position, we as that you contact our Club President, Maureen Wicken.
