Welcome to our home..
Welcome to Riversong
Riversong Farms is
a small farm located in the middle of one of the largest wilderness areas
remaining in Central BC. Far from the "rat race", here we enjoy
what many would call the simple life. A return to the basics of hard
work, fresh air, self-sufficiency, and independence. The historic log home
and B&B cabin overlook the picturesque Nazko River, and are encompassed by our
herb, flower and vegetable gardens.
Riversong Farm is located
in the heart of BC's Cariboo/Chilcotin Region, renowned for the vast wilderness
and remote ranches. We are 100 km west of Quesnel, and are surrounded by
hundreds of miles of forest, lakes, and rivers.
We are proud to be a small family farm,
using age old practices to produce quality livestock and fibre products in an
era where the trend is towards industrialized agriculture.
Cashmere Goats
The main focus at Riversong Farms is the
breeding and raising of Cashmere Goats. We have been breeding Cashmeres
since 1997, and they are the foundation of our farm. Over the years we
have brought in genetic lines originating from the US and Australia, and have
developed a herd with some of the top placing Cashmere in North America. We
are completely taken with these amazing animals and the incredible fibre they
produce. Each year we harvest the cashmere from 150 - 200 goats.
We also sell select animals for breeding stock, and some of our stock can be
found from Vancouver Island to Prince Edward Island!
Cashmere - Farm Direct
We are thrilled to be able to offer
the cashmere we produce here to customers around the world. Our clip is
sent out to the mill every spring, and made into cloud, roving, and yarn - which
we can sell directly to our customers at farm-direct pricing. There is
nothing quite like cashmere....but cashmere. It is so luxurious, so fine, so
warm, so light.....well I could go on forever. That is why it
remains one of the
world's most valuable fibres, and the standard to which other fine fibres are
compared. We take the quality
of our cashmere very seriously, and believe that our cold Canadian climate
helps us to produce some of the finest quality cashmere available.
Farmstay (B&B)/Cabin
We started our Farmstay to give others the opportunity to explore the incredible
wilderness around us, as well to experience that "endangered species" - the
small family farm. Our guests get to stay in the original cabin,
next to the main heritage farm-house. They can enjoy the relaxed friendly
atmosphere of the country, since we have only one group of guests at a time.
Of course the full country breakfast is cooked on an antique wood cook-stove,
and we use farm fresh and organic ingredients. We are minutes away
from some excellent trout fishing, including the famous Blackwater River.
Black Welsh Mountain Sheep
We started raising these little sheep
primarily to keep the grass down around the house. We were also interested
in helping preserve some of the old, traditional farm breeds which are slowly
going extinct. This sheep is considered a rare farm breed by Rare Breeds
Canada. T
Other Residents of Riversong
Since this is a mixed family farm, there
are lots of other animals around to enjoy. Fresh eggs from the
chickens, milk from the milk goat, rabbits, horses, a
donkey, cats, and dogs. Our 3 Akbash livestock protection dogs work around
the clock, keeping our goats safe from predators. And our Llama keeps the
sheep safe.

We are your
hosts, Dan and Diane. We welcome you to Riversong, and invite you to take a
stroll through our pages for a better look at the different things here on our
farm. |
