2816 ~ Pride of the CPR

In June and July of 2008 the Canadian Pacific Railway ran a special train the CP Spirit of 150 Rail Tour that visited 33 communities in southern British Columbia as part of BC's 150th anniversary celebrations. The train featured their restored class H1b Hudson steam locomotive 2816, an entertainment and a museum car.

The Empress locomotive was built in 1930 by Montreal Locomotive Works, worked in eastern Canada and retired in 1960. It was sold to Steamtown in Scranton Pennsylvania in 1964 and reacquired by CP in 1998.

It was the last locomotive to be restored at the former BC Rail steam shops in North Vancouver in 2001 before the shops were permanently closed and the railway acquired by CN.

The locomotive and its passenger cars are housed in Calgary and are used for special excursions. The 2816 is a cousin to 2860 the 'Royal Hudson' which has been restored by the West Coast Railway Association in Squamish BC.
