Notes
In 1914 Ernie, who was attending Agricultural College in Winnipeg, enlisted in
the Army's 144 Battalion. He trained in Kelliher and then went overseas. In
September 1918 Ernie was wounded and spent a year in a hospital in England.
Then he returned to Kelliher for a short time. Automobiles had come to Kelliher
and Ernie decided the car industry, not farming, was more to his liking. Ernie
went to Detroit and settled in Michigan. Among other things, he raised mink
there. He retired to Florida in his later years.

Notes
Ike was born in Alsace-Lorraine of French mother and German father. He was
sent to a military academy in Berlin, where his grandfather lived, when he
was five. At age 14-18, he and a cousin left there for a different life. They
eventually came to Brantford, Ont., but continued on to Buffalo, New York.
Ike returned to Brantford when he was 18 and became a coachman for the
Cockshutt Plow Company which was the main industry there. Ike married and
with one son went to homestead at Oak Bluff, Manitoba in 1900. Moved on to
farm in Headlands, NWT, near Lipton, in 1904. Moved to Kelliher sometime
after 1907. He hauled lumber to build a livery stable which he operated. He
later established a hardware store and a John Deere implement outlet. Ike
served on one of the early town councils. In 1911 he acquired farm property
at the edge of town, next to the Clark's, and built the family home. As well
as farming, he also bought and shipped cattle. They moved to BC in 1920,
first living on Westham Island near Ladner. In 1928 he had to take over the
farm again and moved back until 1934, when it was rented, then subsequently
sold to the Wright's. For a time in Kelliher, Annie Kline had two sisters
there. One of them, Florence, married Norman Tyler. Their daughter Edna
contributed their family info for the Kelliher history in 1982. The other,
Margaret, married George Creasser. In Vancouver Ike had several businesses,
such as feed stores and buying cattle. The site of their home at 1041 SW
Marine Dr is now occupied by a Hotel alongside the Oak St Bridge. They moved
from there to a home he built on Granville St near 57th Ave about 1943 where
he passed on at age 74.
