Children Who Witness Abuse Counselling Program Exposure to negative family conflict in the home can have a profound impact on the development of children and youth. Children often differ in the responses to violence. It is common for them to exhibit negative behaviours, such as aggression, eating difficulties, nightmares, fears and anxiety, depression, or learning difficulties. The CWWA Counselling Program is available for children and youth between ages 3 to 18 who have exposed to domestic violence. The program offers individual and group counselling for children and youth, as well as for caregivers. We can help children and youth to:
identify and express emotions in health ways understand that they are not responsible for the violence develop safety plans assist with grief, loss, and separation issues teach problem-solving and coping skills enhance self-awareness, self-concept, and self-worth. The goal of the Children Who Witness Abuse Program is to interrupt and break the cycle of intergenerational abuse by: directly helping children exposed to violence in relationships addressing their emotional and psychological needs developing parental awareness through violence prevention education
