St Edmunds School

We had another great afternoon session with some very nice young people again today. Ten members showed up to help and all of them really enjoyed interacting with the students

The students themselves also enjoyed the experience I am sure and it was too bad the other classes that were scheduled for Tuesday & Wednesday were rained out. I think they have rescheduled for this coming Wednesday but I will be away and Val is going to look after that.

Many thanks to the members and to the students. Good experience all round

Interclub bowling tournament at Highlands
Sunday 27th May details here as far as I know.

Friday night social bowl at the Commonwealth 7:00pm

No structured games as such, just go down and buy a hamburger if you want and BS with other bowlers then if a group of you want to play a game then organize it yourselves and just take advantage of the facility. It's free.
Every week

The first trophy of the season went very well with 24 people making up 8 teams. The team of May, Eng & Linda were tied with the team of Barbara, Brian & Doreen

That led to a "sudden death" bowl off between the two skips and May's team came out ahead after that. Too bad someone has to come second when it is so close but that's how the game goes.

I think that everyone had a great day, in perfect weather and thanks go out to Brian & Marlo for filling in as spares. It makes the numbers go more smoothly.

Many thanks also to Fay, Greta & Judy for donating the goodies that we all enjoyed.

Last Friday we had a very pleasant group of young people come to visit from St Edmund's junior high school. They were just here for 1 hour and had a good time trying out lawn bowling. Seven Royal members were out to give them some basic instructions which worked out great: allowing us to break them into groups of four for easer communications.

This week we have another group from the same school three time:-

Tuesday  - from 10:45 to 11:45am     Cancelled  Rescheduled for next Wednesday maybe
Wednesday - from 1:00 to 2:00pm     Cancelled
Friday     - from 1:00 to 2:00pm   OK so far
We only have three volunteers for this week so far, so if you can make it down to the green at these times that would be great.

Betty and I will be on vacation from the 30th May to 23rd June so I have asked Barbara Johnston to look after things while we are away.
She is a very capable young woman and I have no doubt, you will be hearing from her soon.

You can check out the pictures that Marlen took at the open house and the cleanup, under "Photos" in the menu above.

Picnic in the park.

We had a lovely warm day for our first Picnic in the Park.
Six people enjoyed a friendly game in the morning.
One person practiced by himself.
A different group of five played a short game in the afternoon cheered on by four spectators.
Do drop in to see what’s happening next "Picnic in the Park".
Sunday 27th May - If you do not want to go to the Interclub at "Highlands"
Even if you only want to watch or practice.

Open House

Fifty members of the public came down to take advantage of the lawn bowling experience we offered on the 12th
It was a glorious day and everyone I met said that they enjoyed their time on the green

Of course the delicious fresh fruit trays, so kindly donated by SAVE ON FOODS at 109st & 102 Ave may have had some influence on that along with the great variety of baked goodies provided by some of the ladies

I was very pleased to see that we had a good turnout of the regular members. That made the work load much easier
Great job all round!
