I would like to take you 'behind the scenes' of a marathon.
I did not simply wake up one day and decide to run a marathon. The actual training that led up to this run has changed my life profoundly.
I have always been athletic but was slowed down considerably by work and lifestyle over the years. Four years ago, I suffered a major injury to my knee while skiing (definition: foolishly trying to race) with my son. With my right knee in a brace and on crutches I was not able to drive. My husband got up every morning for 3 months starting at 5:00 am and drove me to my office in Vancouver. I was trying to exercise again and get back in shape. My daughter came with me when I began working out with a trainer twice a month. We started slowly and our trainer, Iuliana, encouraged us; asking about goals we wanted to set. I've worked with her for three years now, improving my health through diet as well as exercise. I was encouraged to enter road races, set goals and have run half marathons to get ready for the marathon in November
I have had so much support and encouragement from my husband and family. My youngest daughter (and son when he is home) have gone running with me. My oldest daughter has bought a plane ticket to join me in New York. My father has ridden behind me for many hours on his bicycle charting time and distance while I run on the dykes in Delta. My husband has set up (and repaired) exercise equipment in our home; helping me in my workouts. My youngest daughter has set up this website for me; and the list goes on…
I invite you to follow the progress on my blog, to get an insight into my training regime as well as keep informed of my fundraising efforts.
