April 17 - 2005, We are back home safe and sound, just unpacking and trying to sleep and all that stuff. Should be back up on email again too.
July 3 - 2005 Louis Julien Roy and I did a new route in the Ghost. You can check out the info here or at Mountainx.ca.
July 4 - 2005 A quick note about getting into the Ghost, there has been some major changes where the water runs so be careful out there when crossing the rivers. Spots that were good before the flooding are now big trouble, be sure to look around for the best spots to cross. Also, there has been a slide below the wall by Phantom Bluffs and the trail is covered with trees and stuff. Someone cleaned a path through, but it could be dicy with a big truck and the trees will probably continue to creep down. You can get around it by taking the other trail just after you cross the bridge. Also, the river crossing by STD has totally changed, we had to go upstream a few hundred meters and found a place to cross there. Look for a good sand bar in the river, and head for it, then cut back and cross in a small deep section. Pretty exciting, ie: water up to the hood, but not to bad if your careful. Coming back was much better because your with the current instead of against it. Contrary to rumors out there, the last bridge survived fine, and crossing the first bridge that was out is now not a big deal.
Here are some shots of a new Dodge 3500 Desiel that did not survive too well, it was a rental and it looks like it spent some serious time in the water. Check out the interior, yeah that's sand in the glove box! Be careful out there, once water comes over the hood, unless you have a snorkel you are in a world of hurt.
We didn't go to the South Ghost, but I think it would be okay getting over there now that the river has come down a bit. There is still water flowing at the bottom of the big hill but it's getting better every day.
October - 2005 Wow, it's been a while since we did an update, sorry! Had a busy summer climbing and playing here in the mountains. We put a couple of routes up in the Ghost, which I updated. Also, check out the winter edition of the MEC Catalogue, there is a picture of Shelley climbing some ice, it is also in the latest issue of Gripped. It is a shot by Andrew Quiener that was taken in Ouray, Colorado. I always tease her and say she is the only girl in Canada who can climb hard ice and drive a combine.
In August I went to the Bugaboo's with my friend Richard Jagar and we climbed a route called Sunshine on Snowpatch Spire. It was a very cool route and we had a blast. Here is picture from the last pitch, a splitter crack that Richard did in fine style.
Also, I'm posting some pictures from a cool project that was undertaken by some people out by Beiseker where I grew up. A bunch of farmers and local business's got together and seeded 160 acres of canola this spring, with the proceeds from the sale of the crop going to the local food bank. Here are some pictures of the combines taking off the crop. There were 14 combines working out in the field on this afternoon and they took off the 160 acres in about an hour and a half. It was pretty cool watching all those combine's working in one field and impressive to see how fast it went. Kudo's to all who participated, you know who you are.
Finally, I will try and keep some conditions reports up for the upcoming ice climbing season on the conditions page. So keep checking back to see what's going on. Gravsports.com will have the most up to date stuff for conditions though.
