FAQ If your question isn't answered below, please e-mail AutoWindow and ask!
For years we've been asked, "Will AutoWindow
work in my <particular> car?" The problem
of many vehicles is they don't permit electric
window operation while the car is off. Our
friends at DEI have made a module to provide one-touch
up/down on cars with power windows and it
fits almost any car imaginable! The module is called DEI530T.
As a plus it supplies all the necessary electronics
needed by AutoWindow to work while the car
is turned off! AutoWindow Universal Fit models
drive the DEI530T module/s installed in your
car (sold separately). One or two DEI530T
module/s are required along with AutoWindow
Universal Fit module. One DEI module operates
two windows (coupe), two DEI modules operate
four power windows (sedan). Universal Fit
enjoys all the same features and benefits
of AutoWindow Classic, or Cool+ and can have
Nite Sense and Rain Sense options added just
the same!
AutoWindow was originally designed for Volkswagen
Audi Group (VAG) cars. The original AutoWindow
(non-Universal Fit) models install into the
following cars without any other modules
required: 2007 City Golf and 2007 City Jetta now supported. New Beetle, 1998+ Passat, 1999.5+ Jetta / Bora, and Golf / Mk4 and 2000+ SEAT Leon and Ibiza and Cordoba, and 1998+ SKODA Superb and Octavia and Fabia. These cars must be equipped with electric
windows, door locks, and remote entry system
- with or without sunroof. AutoWindow Reflex
works in cars equipped with power folding
mirrors. AutoWindow TT/RS works with cars
having an aftermarket turbo timer installed.
No other remote is needed. AutoWindow works using your existing car remote. AutoWindow attaches to the car's remote entry system and reads signals
to performs new actions.
Yes. AutoWindow commands use the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on your remote in new sequences and ways. You can also do AutoWindow commands using the key in a door
lock by turning the key to lock and unlock in these same sequences. Some
AutoWindow functions are sensor-driven and require no direct remote input
once the functions are enabled.
No modification or re-coding of the remote required. No dealer visit. AutoWindow is immediately usable after you
install it.
Yes. A replacement remote must be properly trained to your vehicle (see
vehicle manual) and then it can also work with AutoWindow. Only the remotes
that match your vehicle will work for AutoWindow commands.
No different than your existing remote. AutoWindow commands work in the same range as normal LOCK and UNLOCK actions. It won't extend or reduce transmission
distances nor does AutoWindow affect reception quality of existing remotes.
AutoWindow Cool+ temperature control features can be working while you
are away from the car.
LOCK, UNLOCK, TRUNK/HATCH release, and ALARM/PANIC buttons on the remote
continue to do their normal function as described in your car manual. AutoWindow listens to remote signals
for matching window commands to perform other new functions. AutoWindow
commands can be modified using SETUP to change window command behaviours
but this does not change normal remote entry functions for the car.
No, all windows respond to AutoWindow commands. You cannot command individual
windows from the remote.
Yes, AutoWindow closes sunroof using CLOSE and VENT commands after all the windows have shut. The STOP
command can be used to halt sunroof if it is closing. Sunroof can't be
opened by AutoWindow. The OPEN command leaves the sunroof where it is set.
Venting is adjustable from about 1" to 3" gap. Actual gap size depends on your car
and there could be slight differences in gap around all windows - this
is normal. Rear windows always vent less than front windows, and may not
vent at all for the smallest setting. The sunroof gets closed for all venting
commands and stays shut - only windows open a gap.
AutoWindow module installs inside the driver's door. Access is gained by removing the interior door panel. (Upgrading speakers
or side window tinting are excellent opportunities for installing AutoWindow
since the door panels will already be off for those jobs.) Some AutoWindow
models come with other kit pieces that connect to the module using supplied
wiring. The Brite model has a part that installs at the fuse panel, Reflex
requires passenger door panel removal, Rain Sense has a part to affix on
the windshield, TT/RS has wires to connect to your Turbo Timer inside the
car.
The "Installation Wizard" steps you through the process using
the AutoWindow status LED to confirm each wire after attaching it to the
car! This makes for trouble-free installation and pinpoints problems to
be corrected before continuing with the installation. Allow 2 to 4 hours (depends on model and features ordered) to complete the job using common tools. Detailed instructions walk through door panel removal, module wiring
using color code charts specific to your car, and options installation
and testing. Quality 3M automotive wire taps are included that simplify
making reliable electrical connections - no need for soldering car wires.
Yes. AutoWindow SETUP / programming allows you to disable all AutoWindow commands in less than a minute using the remote! Disabling AutoWindow returns the car to stock functions
for LOCK and UNLOCK. Repeat the same programming process to re-enable AutoWindow
commands later. There is no need to access the module or change its wiring
to suspend AutoWindow.
AutoWindow reads the remote entry and security systems of the car to operate. Some cars in EU do not have factory alarms installed but often
have the necessary wiring harness available for AutoWindow to work! If
your car does not have the blinking alarm LED on the driver's door please
contact our support for instructions prior to ordering.
No, AutoWindow is transparent to servicing tools. Its program memory cannot be accessed or erased by dealer VAG tool or
battery changes. The only way AutoWindow can be changed is by programming using the remote (or key) belonging to the car. Since AutoWindow's presence is not easily determined please inform technicians and/or disable AutoWindow while the car is being
serviced, for safety.
No, the Heat Sensor is located inside AutoWindow Cool+ module and is self
contained. Cool+ reads interior temperature without having to connect to
the HVAC system.
Cool+ and Classic models equipped with the Rain Sense option will close vented windows
if rain is detected on the windshield where the sensor is mounted. Rain
Sense only closes windows that have been vented using AutoWindow
features - it does not close windows left wide-open in the rain.
Yes, using a special adapter supplied by AutoWindow. Rain Tracker and
AutoWindow can share the same sensor. Contact AutoWindow support prior
to ordering.
No, AutoWindow requires purchase of the Rain Sensor option which is manufactured
by OEDES for aftermarket applications and offers superior sensitivity to
light rain.
