The DEW Line (Doug Wingfield)
This HO layout is set in the era before 1954 using Canadian National and other roads steam locomotives. The main features of this layout other than its size at 28 feet X 19 feet are the scratch built structures in the 10 track by 14 inches long main yard. These structures consist of the Brantford, Ontario coaling tower, Hanna sand house and icehouse. There is a 5 stall roundhouse under construction with a completed turntable.
The layout is a point to reverse connection with 3 on line towns that provide a destination for products of the various industries.
All track is Micro Engineering code 83 on the main line and code 70 flex track in the yards, towns and all sidings. All switches, crossings and crossovers are scratch built.
Train control is the old fashioned block system with rotary switches to control access to a specific piece of track.
Scenery is approximately 50% complete. All track and operation is 100% complete.
Another feature of the layout room is the locomotive engineers call board from the CPR roundhouse in Lethbridge. The board is set up with all the runs and name tags from June 15, 1983 which was the last day of operation of the Lethbridge roundhouse before the operation moved 8 miles west to the new yard near Coalhurst.
