On Sunday, August 20th, 17
people enjoyed a hearty breakfast at the Northhill Diner before stepping back in time at the Grande Ole West Villa
Ranch near Bieseker. The Ranch, located just over an hour's drive by Model A standards, is owned and operated by Mr. & Mrs. Hixt. Upon our arrival
they shared the history of the ranch before taking us on a tractor driven ride down main street.
In the early 80's the ranch became a reality more than just a dream as the buildings, some original from the surrounding area, began to take shape and
the artifacts were put in place. along with the historical collection of early pioneer memorabilia, Mr. Hixt has created many sculptures from broken
unused tractors and farming implements. You could almost spend a whole day counting horeshoes that he has incorporated in the horses, cows, and other
structures he has designed himself.
As we strolled up and down the board sidewalks we glanced inside the bakery,
the camera shop, the grainery, and many more only to find Kathy and Paul still in the ranch House. It seems Kathy and Ruth (Mrs. Hixt) are first
cousins and hanging on the wall were pictures of Kathy's grandparents. Leaving them to reminisce and having had an enjoyable tour with good friends
we headed back to the modern day life in the city.
