Welcome To The World Of Assman

Hi.  Welcome to my website.  The purpose of this site is to express whatever I want about anything I feel like.  This is my second web site.  My first is The Official Sid Died For Squid Website .  I hope you find something that entertains or interests you here.  Feel free to browse the various pages of this site.

Well, let us get on with it.  This is my world.  This is what I  love.  This is what I hate.  This is who I know.  This is who I've lost.  This is what I do.  This is where I've been.  This is more than you'll ever wish to know about me.  Thank God the "CLOSE" button is only a click away in your browser.

A recent photograph of me with Lesley taken at the office.

January 22, 2005

Yet again, I've waited a small eternity to update this site.  The past 4 months have been very busy.  As it was in September, my life has been very good.  Work has been going well, I lost more weight, I successfully ran the CIBC Run For The Cure without breaks, and took some vacation time over the holidays.  Most importantly, my relationship with Lesley has developed positively, and I was happy to be able to spend much of my vacation with her.  As is typical I have seen a number of films in the past 4 months, many with Lesley, and some without.  The films I've seen recently are Collateral, Up And Down, Czech Dream,  The World According To Bush, Zelary, Festival Express (again), Rocky Horror Picture Show, Team America: World Police, Polar Express, Immortal (Ad Vitam), The Great Conspiracy, Hijacking Catastrophe, Elektra and In Good Company.  We only went to one play in this time.  That was The Complete Works Of William Shakespeare Abridged at the Arts Club Theatre Granville Island stage.  The play was very funny.  The DOA/SNFU show that I mentioned in my last update was great.  I can't even begin to explain how good Green Day was live.  Their show is one of the best live performances I have ever seen.  They were fantastic!  New Found Glory and Sugarcult, who opened for them left a little to be desired though.  At the end of 2004 I had some luck in winning tickets to various shows.  At one point I had won passes for two to two different films on the same night.  Lesley and I decided to go see the film Immortal (Ad Vitam) at Tinseltown (tickets courtesy of The Westender), while I gave away my pass to see Kinsey at 5th Avenue Cinema (tickets courtesy of CTV).  Immortal was not a great film by any stretch, but I'm glad I didn't give someone those particular tickets as I probably would have felt guilty inflicting that film upon anyone.  Lesley and I endured it instead.  I also won a pair of tickets from The Georgia Straight to see Karin Plato and Friends at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre.  This was a great show consisting of jazzy Christmas songs from around the world.  Other than that I did go to both of the special train events in Stanley Park this year, going on the Ghost Train in October with Sasha and the Bright Nights Train in December with Lesley.  OK.  That does sound like a lot, but it has been 4 months after all.  Oh yeah, I shouldn't forget to mention that I did the polar bear swim this year.  Lesley has done it several times before but this was a first for me.  The weather for the event this year was great, but that water was very cold (and don't believe anyone who says otherwise).  At present the house in which I rent my basement suite is up for sale and as a result people keep coming over to look at it.  This is a pain, but hopefully when it sells I won't be forced to move.  I have done some gaming over the last few months.  My D&D group has been down for a while but I have done some good boardgaming (and card gaming, too).  Grant, Kevin and Glenn come over on the weekend sometimes to game.  We've had some good games of Iron Dragon, King of The Table Top, Chez Geek, and Chez Dork, among others.  I've also played some games with Lesley, though she handily beats me in most.  These have been games of Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, and Backgammon.  I did kick her ass in a game of Connect Four, though.  Well, after all these months I did have a lot to say.  I hope you weren't all too bored and as usual, I'll try to get an update sooner but I just procrastinate too much.  Until later...

September 22, 2004

Yet again, a whole heck of a lot has been happening in my life.  I am very happy that my life has been excellent of late, and I do have very little to complain about (a little more disposable income would sure make life easier, though).  Where to begin...  Well, as might be expected, I have been seeing a lot of films.  There are probably more than I can recall, but recent films that I have seen include, I Robot, Festival Express, Supersize Me (twice), Fahrenheit 911 (twice), Stupidity, Maria Full Of Grace, Modern Times (the Chaplin silent film), Alien Vs. Predator, The Door In The Floor, most recently The Life Of Brian (yes, the Monty Python Film).  I've started going out to see more live shows and have gone to see several bands since my last update here.  I have gone to see the Violent Femmes at the Commodore, The Dayglo Abortions with Lid at the Cobalt, Pixies with The Bad Plus and the Marble Index at the Plaza Of Nations, and Crystal Pistol and State Of Shock at the Buffalo Club (they were opening acts for L.A. Guns, but I didn't stick around for the headliner...don't ask!).  I've also seen several free shows in downtown Vancouver including Powder Finger, State Of Shock, Winston and Chilliwack.  I also saw a couple of Bard On The Beach plays, specifically Macbeth and The Merry Wives Of Windsor.  Both plays were excellent!  On Friday night I am going to see SNFU and DOA, and I already have tickets to see Green Day in November.  Work is going very well.  I've been busy and haven't taken a Friday off in a couple of months, but that is not a problem.  Sasha is back from his summer in Kitimat and is back at school, with most of his electives in his first semester.  I've also started a serious attempt to lose some weight and get physically fit.  I have been jogging on a regular basis (when I'm not getting shin splints) and eating healthier.  Since August 28, I have lost 15 lbs (that's about 7 kg).  Last, but certainly not least, I have met an incredible woman who I have been seeing for a while now.  I'm not going to get into any details right now, but she is a contributing factor to my current positive outlook on life.  Sorry to those of my friends who have been using my site to see what I've been up to, but I will try to give you some more frequent updates in the future.  Until, next time...

Wow.  It has been a long time since my last update.  I have been extremely busy in the past few months.  Where to begin.  I guess the most significant thing to happen to me recently is my new job.  On December 1st I started a new job at Read Jones Christoffersen.  Unlike my previous job at Hobbs Winter & MacDonald, this one is a drafting job.  I have been working long hours, but I love the job.  RJC is a great company to work for.  My Christmas and New Years were very good.  I spent the holidays with family and friends in the Vancouver area this year, while Sasha visited the grandparents in Kitimat.  A lot of my time these days is occupied by work, but I still go see plenty of movies and read a lot of books.  Some of the recent films I have seen include the latest Lord Of The Rings flick, plus Big Fish, The Butterfly Effect and Cheaper By The Dozen..  For those of you that didn't know, I filed for Bankruptcy last year.  I am happy to sat that I was discharged from my bankruptcy in January, so now with no debt and a brand new job, I can start fresh.  Things are looking up!  Well, that is four months in one paragraph.  I really hope to have the next update here sooner, and maybe some updates to other parts of this site.  Until then...

O.K., so what we have here is the links to the various parts of my world.  Click on the option that you want.  It's pretty easy.  If an option does not have an active link, then the page for it hasn't yet been created, and you'll have to try something else.  Let's do it.
