This was one of my first wood carvings. After scroll sawing out the profile there was not a lot of carving to be done. The Scottie Dog is made from pine with a light staining of golden oak wood stain.
This is my second attempt at doing the Scottie Dog. This one is carved from American Elm which I collected after our elm in front of the house was damaged by a heavy winter storm.
One of my favorite things to carve are these Welsh Love Spoons. The first spoon is carved from pine and given a light staining with golden oak wood stain. The two hearts spoon is carved from walnut. The far spoon is carved from the Manitoba Maple burl.
Here are two more samples of Welsh Love spoons.

The first spoon is carved from Manitoba Maple burr. The three little balls were carved from the same wood and are entirely free to move around.

The second spoon is carved from Jack Pine and the two rings were also carved from the same piece of wood and are entirely free. The second ring represents the wedding ring.

As can be imagined, it takes a long time to carve these spoons. They tend to be gifts that I have made for someone, rather than, commissioned works.

This cat is a fun little piece to carve. Although it is recommended that the cat be tacked down some way. Falling off his perch could be bad for his tail. I carved this cat from American Elm with the idea that the dark marks would look like spots. The yellowish color also helped add some interest to this piece.
