Below are some samples of my lapel pins that I have made over the years. I have endeavored to make the image reflect the true size of the piece being shown.

The hummingbird is an interesting subject to do. This hummingbird is made from butternut. Butternut has a nice even grain, and is easily carved.

The swan has been one of my most popular subjects. I have done so many that I have lost count. Some of the more interesting woods used have been ebony, cocobolo, and lilac.

This butterfly is carved from a single piece of zebra wood. The antenna are made from a flexible beading wire, with a small drop of glue on the ends.

I have done a few horses. This cocobolo horse pin has a nice dynamic motion to it. The cocobolo wood gives the horse a beautiful reddish brown color with a few black streaks running through it.

The gecko was one of my first wood jewelry pieces. Like the swan I have done so many that I have lost count. And like the swan the gecko has been made in a wide variety of woods.

In the Summer 2002 issue of the Scroll Saw Workshop I wrote an article on how I make my geckos. This gecko is made from Saskatoon Berry.

This was a special request from a very talented musical friend. Sometimes a little bit of carving helps add to the look of a piece. The purple colored streaking is due to the caragana wood.
