A NOTE ON BREEDERS

Too many times people are quick to point out that it is the breeders fault there are so many dogs and puppies in the dog pound or SPCA. The next time you are there looking for a cheap dog or puppy just ask how many of those rejected animals are CKC Registered. It is not likely there will be any because breeders of registered dogs identify them with microchips so if they get lost and are found by either a vet, or some kind of organization for lost dogs the animals will be inspected and scanned for a microchip. The microchips are registered to the breeder who owns that chip or to the new owners and with a quick phone call the dog or puppy can be returned to their owner. Most of the dogs in rescue organizations are cross breeds or puppies that have been produced by pets being bred by people who just want one litter from their own females so they do not have to pay a breeder to get one. Breeders carefully select the adult dogs for good health, pedigree, color and size. A lot of time and effort is put into this process. If you want to ensure the dogs will not end up in the dog pounds and put to sleep or are just shuffled around from one owner to another, make sure your new puppy or adult dog has a microchip. You can get your dog microchipped at the vet if it has not been done already and your dog will be returned to you if it is found. Sometimes a tattoo will fade over time and it is often hard to read the numbers, a microchip never fades and will remain with your pet for the rest of its life.
