CPTED - LEVEL 2 (ADVANCED CPTED AND CPTSD)

Large Scale Urban Planning: From Crime Prevention to Neighborhood Reclamation

The CPTED Level 2 Course is generally taught as a 5 day adjunct to the Level 1 course. Other configurations are available however concepts taught in the Level 1 course are essential prerequisites for the Level 2 course.

Concentrating on how integration works in the level two CPTED course more time is spent on neighborhood reclamation projects; teaching how to be a catalyst to coordinate community development and empower stakeholders. Far from being just theoretical, this course has received high praise from hardnosed street cops to urban planning professionals from west coast Vancouver and Seattle through the Regina and Saskatoon in the prairies to Halifax and Fredericton on the east coast. This course is practical and employs tactical management skills from our strategic leadership training courses. Course Facilitators come from multi-discipline backgrounds as diverse as community planners, architects, urban planners, and local neighborhood interest group representatives.

Topics include neighborhood capacity and cohesion ('Take back the Turf' strategies), Broken Windows theory, Tipping Points, crime mapping and analysis, and urban planning. Exercises include the macro-level "Design-A-Town" exercise aimed at practical rehearsals for participating in design Charrettes. The result is participants who have experience designed to put them directly the urban planning process as effective participants.
