Mike Sheard
is an organizational management and strategic planning
leader. He has over 25 years experience in business administration, risk
assessment, change management and crime prevention. He is a highly effective
team builder and proven business leader.
From 2001 – 2003 he led a Canadian multi-million dollar private security
company through a major change management process, doubling revenues from seven
to fourteen million dollars. During that time he hired, trained and led the
executive management team, developed an employee appreciation program, and
taught leadership courses to middle management. During his tenure the company
took over substantial contracts with government, public and private
institutions, and various corporations. Many of these contracts broke new ground
for the company in markets as diverse as healthcare systems, government
departments, and public infrastructure facilities.
Mike Sheard
has been responsible for management development and
succession planning and directly supervises senior managers. He develops and
maintains relationships with heads of large corporate, government, and
institutional client companies. He develops overall service-delivery strategies.
He works with management teams to develop effective service strategies. And he
maintains active membership in concomitant associations and organizations.
Tasked with the responsibility for financial management, knowledge management,
risk management, and overall corporate development, and develops and reviews
overall strategic and long-range plans; formulates budgets and oversees
expenditures.
For
three years prior to that
Mike Sheard
was the administrator at the
University
of
British Columbia
where he was responsible
for the development and all overall strategic and long-range planning for his
department. He established program goals and monitored work output, and was
responsible for creating and monitoring the budget to ensure that goals were met
throughout the year.
As
the department Administrator he was required to assess employee performance,
addressing any shortfalls, and take corrective action of all union staff as
required, represent the University in relation to the department regarding
employment standards and issues relating to the collective agreement. He took
the initiative to develop a training/orientation program for all new employees;
reviewed, recommended and implemented strategic changes; enhanced standards,
policies and procedures; and ultimately improved security services to a campus
with sixty thousand people on site daily. Mike was also a member of the
successful 2010 Olympic Bid Committee making recommendations on security.
Prior
to that
Mike Sheard
spent eighteen years as a police officer in Delta British
Columbia. He taught at the Justice Institute, the
RCMP
Fairmont
Academy
in Vancouver and Depot Regina, and several other agencies
such as the Seattle Police, San Diego Police, and Vancouver Police. He created
and published the national CPTED training curriculum for the RCMP. His police
accomplishments include being the winner of the international Herman Goldstein
Criminology Award and the recipient of the Outstanding Police Crime Prevention
Practitioner Award by the Solicitor General of BC.
Mike Sheard
has been an organizational development consultant to police
and the private security industry. He teaches in the areas of Principle Centered
Leadership, CPTED, strategic planning, and change management. Clients include
the RCMP, the
Canadian
Police
College, McDonalds Restaurants, PetroCanada, 7-Eleven (the Southland
Corporation) and others.
