Markus has just completed his his 6th year as a Canuck
and is second only to Trevor Linden as the longest serving Canuck.
As Captain he has been quietly leading the team by example, and over the
past couple of seasons that example has been incredible. After breaking
his leg in two places last season, many doubted he would be able to regain
his form and score another 40 goals. Markus silenced those critics
and put an exclamation mark on it. He finished just behind Jerome
Iginla in the NHL scoring race this season and has been mentioned in MVP
talks. Markus heralds from the same Swedish town of Ornskoldsvik
as the Sedin twins and as captain has been able to help them adjust to
the life of an NHL star.
