Project Management Services
When managing any size project, ranging from two weeks to a year with any number of team players, Orbis Directions will take your project from the initial definition stage through to production implementation. Project Management Services include:
  • Work with the client to define and document the scope of the project.
  • Ensure all team members have a clear understanding of the project requirements.
  • Facilitate the creation of the project plan with the team, with the results being managed in a Gantt chart.
  • Regular status meetings with the project team for updates, to monitor the scope and risks and to identify schedule changes.
  • Coordinate issues that require an escalated focus of attention.
  • Liaison between project sponsor and GIS/AM/FM software vendor.
  • Oversee the quality of the deliverable.
  • Ensure the implementation is on time and on budget.

Project Management Experience
The Project Management Service at Orbis Directions is based on Stewart Nimmo's formal Project Management training and years of managing large and small projects involving the design, development and implementation of GIS/AM/FM applications. He has facilitated the creation of numerous projects plans resulting in Gantt charts of a dozen tasks to more complex charts of several hundred interdependent tasks. The projects Stewart Nimmo has managed utilized a number of commercial GIS/AM/FM packages involving ESRI products, Smallworld products, Genasys, Mapinfo, GRASS, FACET, a number of CAD packages( AutoCAD, Microstation, Generic CAD), and PCI. The following is a list of sample projects managed by Stewart Nimmo in a variety of industries.
Fisheries Management
  • Stream Habitat Management: developed data processes which created a subset of the B.C. Watershed Atlas (an existing topologically complex stream network atlas).
  • Salmon Habitat Management: developed and deployed a customized corporate GIS desktop.


Watershed Management
  • Environmental Watershed Analysis: developed an ongoing map production service.
  • Landuse Planning: software and data processes were developed to produce an extensive atlas of maps for field use.


Mineral Exploration
  • Grass roots mineral exploration through to feasibility studies: developed a number of analysis and plotting tools.


Gas Transmission
  • Field Maintenance: managed the development of tools for cathodic protection, stress corrosion, emergency response, alignment sheet production and property assessment.


Gas Distribution
  • Facilities Management: managed the development of drafting tools and a spatially enabled Customer Information System.


Telecommunication
  • Outside Plant Facilities Management: managed the development of tools such as butterfly diagrams, QA/QC processes and query and reporting functions for lease management and fibre/sheath assignments.


Hydro Distribution
  • Hydro Distribution: managed a project involving the enhancement of a data translation process, development of QA/QC tools and customization of facility placement tools.
