Colors of the Shetland Sheepdog

Sable & white

BJ 1 Rhoda

Sable shelties come in a great range of sable. The dog on the left is referred to as a mahogany or shaded sable while the dog on the right would be referred to as a golden sable.

Penny 2 Penny

This is Penny, one of the rescue shelties; notice the "frosting" on her head and light sable color on her body.

Black, white & tan or tricolor

Tri Pup 1 Stacey 1

Notice that the black on these dogs surrounds the eyes (with tan eyebrows) and carries on down the nose.

Blue merle, white & tan

Black & white, or bi-black

Raven

Blue merle & white, or bi-blue

Tracy

Color-headed white

Lucy

Lucy is a blue merle color-headed white; notice that her head is normally colored while her body is predominately white. These shelties are no more likely to be deaf or blind than any other full color sheltie.

Double merle

Double Merle

Note that this sheltie has a predominantly white head and body. Many double merles are very often deaf or blind or both, related to lack of pigmentation in the eye and ear.
