About the organbuilder, John Brombaugh

John Brombaugh was born in Ohio in 1937 of Pennsylvania Dutch stock. He trained in electrical engineering and acoustics and was granted seven patents relating to electronic organs during two years with the Baldwin Piano and Organ Co. At age 27, tracker organs caught his imagination, so he apprenticed with builders Fritz Noack and Charles Fisk near Boston, then worked as a journeyman with Rudolf von Beckerath in Germany. In 1968, he set up his own shop on his father's farm in Ohio. In 1977, shortly after installing his landmark organ at Central Lutheran Church in Eugene Oregon, he relocated his firm and his family to Eugene.

His organs are rooted in the traditions of great European builders of the 16th and 17th centuries, whose work he has studied extensively, builders such as Arp Schnitger and Hendrik Niehoff. His instruments are designed with meticulous engineering discipline and built with great care from the best materials. They are noted for efficient pipework of a intentionally vocal timbre.
