From June 10th to the 17th I was the artist in residence at the Ruby Lake Lagoon Nature Reserve. It was a wonderfuI, but exhausting, week. I figure that I probably painted a greater surface area in that one week than I would in an average year. The schedule I set for myself was quite challenging, starting three new paintings each day while still working on the works from the previous days. The weather added to the fun, with plenty of wind and rain to keep things entertaining between the occasional sunny breaks, creating some interesting interactions with the whole painting outdoors experience. I had no complaints. It's a beautiful place and it was a great opportunity to have lived there, at the Centre, for a whole week.
I have yet to hear what the final plans for the paintings are. Some may be used for centre displays, some may be available for sale through the Iris Griffith Centre's gift shop or by fundraising auction. Images of the final paintings are now on display in the gallery.
And it looks like I will be having a painting included in the visual arts display of the upcoming Sechelt Arts Festival 2007, from August 7th to 14th.
