to the webpage of the art of Stewart Stinson.
The continuous theme explored in all of my work is the connection between all living things. The central subject, thus far, is the landscape of Coastal British Columbia, the web of life that exists between sky, mountain, tree and sea. Wind swept tree tops, distant mountain tops, rippled reflections in water - the multi-layered motion and altering perception of nature is unified and the separation between body, mind and natural world is but an illusion. All of this windy art cheese babble speak may actually be true, as studies from all disciplines have identified that the water, the sky, the trees, the Earth, the heavens beyond, are intricately interconnected in countless ways and that the two, the many, are, in fact, one.
My paintings aim to be simultaneously representational and abstract, producing recognizable landscape images of the West Coast, while highlighting this strange and wonderful mystery of the cosmos. Brush strokes and colours flow in rhythmic spiralling waves, reflecting the rhythms and connections in the natural world all around us. That's the idea.
