OUTREACH ACTIVITIES
LOCAL
- FOOD BANK:
We collect food for the Edmonton Food Bank in the narthex of the church. We donated 88 kg of food to the food bank after our thanksgiving collection.
- HABITAT FOR HUMANITY:
This year we are providing four lunches for a Habitat for Humanity building crew. Habitat for Humanity is an organization that builds basic homes for working families that would not otherwise be able to affort their own home. Each family must donate 500 hours to their and other houses. They get a home and an interest free mortgage. The mortgage that they pay helps to pay for a house for another family. Habitat will be supplying 40 homes for those who need them this year. We try to supply healthy meals that will sustain the workers in hard physical labour.
- PRAYERWORKS HALL:
St. Faith's, an inner-city parish, has dedicated itself to providing meals for hungry people in the area, and to continue in that ministry they needed a new hall. St. Patrick's was able to donate some money to this important project.
- CAMPBELL SOUP LABELS:
We are collecting specially marked Campbell Soup labels to help inner city schools.
- BREAD RUN
Every Saturday at 4 p.m. a community volunteer brings almost expired baked goods to give away to any who are in need.
- OTHER
The parish supports the Inner City Pastoral Ministry (ICPM) by donating Christmas gifts. The Quilting group also makes quilts to be given to those in need. ICPM is an interdenominational Christian ministry of presence and partnership with the people of the inner city of Edmonton.
NATIONAL
- PRIMATES WORLD RELIEF and DEVELOPMENT FUND (PWRDF)
Parishioners donate regularly to the PWRDF
- STAMPS FOR SCRIPTURES:
Parishioners bring their cancelled stamps from any letters received and place them in the "stamp bag" on our parish bulletin board. These are then taken to the Canadian Bible Society. Proceeds from the stamp sales go for the purchase of bibles.
INTERNATIONAL
- St. Patrick's has had a partnership with the Diocese of Northern Malawi and an interest in the people of Malawi. Currently we are helping to sponsor a SOS Children's Village in Lilongwe in Malawi. In this village orphaned children live in foster care and are given schooling.
OUTREACH FUNDS
- Where do our outreach funds come from? Ten percent of proceeds from all our fundraising activities, large and small, are given to outreach. In addition, parishioners have generously donated additional funds to these projects. But that is not all. Many hours of volunteer time go into organization, volunteering, baking, knitting, buying, selling and doing all the myriad tasks that are needed for these endeavours to be a success.
