This man is hiding his identity behind a hemispherical mixing bowl that has the same distortive properties as the helmet visors used by the Apollo astronauts, though not nearly as shiny. The photographer can be seen reflected in the middle of the bowl. Note how the end of the man's reflected shadow appears to be surrounded by brighter-coloured sand--a result of the shadows being in phase with the reflected image.
Admittedly, the zero phase effect in this simulation is not as good as that seen in the Apollo photographs. That's because the sunlight on the sand doesn't shine out as well with a bright blue sky above it. Also, the clouds cut some of the sunlight, and the trees behind the photographer cluttered up the mirror-image. Just goes to show how difficult it is to fake an Apollo picture on earth.
