Tides for the month of July 2007

Tides for the month of August 2007

Fishing, diving, swimming, hiking, shopping, golfing, scuba, sailing, boating - all happening in Nanaimo!

Kids? What better place in the summer then the BEACH. Or maybe the GYRO kids' water park just 2 blocks away.

We keep a cupboard full of books, games and musical instruments.

Beach toys include sail boards and an inflatable dinghy to row over to Newcastle Island where you can enjoy 10 kilometres of trails.

6-crab5.jpg (4237 bytes)Catch fresh crab 150 yards from the front door. (license required) Use the same license to dig clams and pick oysters just a few minutes away.

Easy walk, drive or bus to shopping, ice cream, coffee, groceries, gas, beauty salon, barber, restaurant within 2 blocks. Or drive to Parksville, Qualicum, Coombs, French Creek, Ladysmith or Chemanius, all within a half hour.

Sample the original "Nanaimo bars", a sweet tooth's delight.

Visit the Port Theatre in downtown Nanaimo, drop in to the shops or wander on the boardwalk around the boat basin. Catch the ferry to Gabriola Island for the Gabriola Home & Garden Tour. Have a meal and a drink at Canada's only floating pub, the Dinghy Dock Pub on Protection Island. Weekly farmers market is right off the Front Street overlooking the boat basin.  Visit the Nanaimo web site for current events.

The Cadillac Van Isle 360 Yacht race, around Vancouver Island, starts and ends in Nanaimo in June.

Dragon boat festivals are springing up all over the west coast, and Nanaimo's is in mid July.

The world famous Royal Order of the Bath (Bath tub days) happen in late July, just after the Silly Boat Regatta and Marine Festival week. Fireworks, land lubber tub races and a symphony in the Harbour round up the month of July

August sees the Vancouver Island Exhibition, a small town fair with exhibits, rides and fun for the family. Ball games, tournaments, beach events, Sunday symphonies are always a favourite.  Tourism Nanaimo can keep you up to date with these events.

Golf at any of 8 (and growing) golf courses all within a half hour. Catch that summer movie you were looking forward to.

Interested in scuba diving. Visit the Cape Breton, a sunken navy vessel just about 3 miles away.  The shores off Nanaimo are the home to the worlds largest artificial reef with 3 dive spots available.  A recent addition is a shallow dive about 1 nautical mile from your front door.
