Marsha, the SWCRC Community Resource Worker, meets with individuals
and families living in our 19 communities to complete an intake assessment and
provide information and coordinated referrals to help clients’ access programs

· Family Violence Prevention
Mabel from YWCA Family Violence Centre
and Sheriff King Home provides support, information and resources to adults
who have experienced domestic violence in their lives. Please call Mabel at
294-3661 to set up an appointment.
· Counselling
Representatives from Calgary Family Services and Woods
Homes provide individual, couple and family counselling at SWCRC. Daytime
and evening appointments are available. Contact SWCRC intake worker to access
services.
· Parenting Groups
Positive Parenting, facilitated by YWCA Sheriff King Home,
focuses on understanding your child, building self esteem, positive discipline,
communication & more. Starts Tuesday September 21 from 9:15-11:15am
(runs 12 weeks). Childminding available for children 2-6years. Call SWCRC to
register.
· Single Parent Support Group
Single parents meet for mutual support, learning and fun the
2nd & 4th Thursday of the month from 6:15-7:45pm.
Childminding provided. Limited spaces available – contact SWCRC to
register.
· Lets Talk!
This is a new conflict resolution group for
adolescent females 12-14years and their parents. Facilitated in collaboration
with Parent Support Association, Hull Child and Family Services, Calgary
Family Services and the City of Calgary. Starts Monday October 4
from 6:00-8:00pm (runs 10 weeks). Childminding available. Call SWCRC to
register.
· Kickstart
A
ten week program for 7-11 year olds at risk of engaging in negative behaviours.
Call Marci at McMan Youth, Family and Community Services 297-8358 for
details and registration. Starts Monday September 20 3:45-4:45 (runs 8
weeks).
· Women of Worth
An
interactive speaker series for women to take a break, meet others and gain new
information or skills. Program runs once a month and guest speakers present
various aspects of self care. Join us for Safe and Sound an exciting
women’s safety course September 29 6:30-7:45. Space is limited – call
SWCRC to register.
· Best Beginnings
A
free program for pregnant women and their supporters. Drop in to see Nicole
Mondays from 10:00-11:30am for information/referrals or to request milk,
juice and vitamin vouchers. Call 781-1473 for information.
· Seniors Outreach Worker
Glenda from Jewish Family Services is at the Centre
Wednesdays from 9:00am-noon to meet with seniors to answer questions and
provide information on services, benefits and opportunities
available.
· Youth Advocate
Interfaith Youth and Family Services
provides one on one support for youth 8-16yrs at home, school and in the
community. Focus on skill development and social involvement. Contact SWCRC
intake to access services.
· Southwest Youth Crew
An
action group for Southwest youth focusing on leadership, planning and
volunteering. A collaboration with Southland Leisure Centre. Get
involved at the fall kick off Oct 1 at 6:30pm at the Leisure
Centre.
· Storytime
Drop in Tuesdays 10:30-11:00am to enjoy stories, puppets and
finger plays with the staff of the Calgary Public Library. For children
3-6years.
· Mastering the Mouse
A free computer tutorial for new users to introduce a number of
concepts including internet, email and word processing. Wednesdays
2:30-3:30.
· Clothing Bank
This
program allows you to choose 3 pieces of clothing for each family member.
Appointments available on Mondays from 10:00am-4:00pm.
· Homework Club
Volunteer tutors are at the Centre Tuesdays from 5:00-8:00pm
to assist elementary and junior high students with academics.
· Community Coffee House
Drop in Fridays from 10:00-11:30am to relax, read the paper
and meet others in your community while enjoying a coffee.
· Family Violence Info Nights
Come for an informal discussion about healthy relationships,
definitions of abuse, the cycle of violence and the impact of violence on
children. Resource information provided. Call SWCRC for date/time.
· Volunteer Opportunities

· Public Access Computers
We have 3 internet workstations available to residents for employment
and housing searches. Printing, copying and faxing available for .10 per page.
