Koto Katana with Mounts

This is a very elegant long tachi from the Nambokucho period I think.  The blade has a great shape, with fumbari and has a mokume hada with itame mixed in.  The temper is a gunome choji midare with some of the peaks going almost to the shinogi.

The hamon is a wide and deep band of nioi with areas or ara nie mixed in and is very well done showing great skill.  There is yo, kinsugi, sunagashi and ashi in the hataraki.  There are long strands of bright nie in the ji.  The blade is in very good older polish with some slight staining and scratches on the blade.

The blade is 90.6 cm total length or 36 3/4 inches.  The nagasa is 75.2cm or 28 3/8 inches. The width at the machi is 2.8cm and at the yokote it is 1.9cm.  The blade has a medium long kissaki with a  notare komi boshi that is hakekake.

The nakago has two holes and is o-suriage.  It has a very nice sakura two pieece habaki with a ribbed patern.  The blade is mounted in a black lacquered saya, has a nice iron sukashi dragon tsuba that looks to be Echizen and  sakura menuki of shishi.  The fuchi is a finished with a gold washed dragon, and the tsuka is wrapped in gold ito.  A nice early koto blade and mounts that will enhance any collection.
