Yoshimasa
This is a very nice katana by Nontonoshi Furuzaw Hachisaemon Yoshimasa.
He was a student of Tomotaka and worked in the later part of the Shinshinto period circa 1848 -1868. This blade is in very good recent Japanese polish and is mounted in top quality tiger tail shirasaya and comes with katana mountings with wooden tsunagi.
The blade has a total length of 34 3/8 inches with a nagasa of 26 1/2 inches.
The shinogi zukuri blade has a very tight and bright pear skin hada. The blade is tempered in a gunome midare in a wide and deep nioi decki with yo and ashi in the Bizen style and is very well done. @ The medium long kissaki has a very small turn back. The ubu nakago is finished kiri, and the very distinctive file marks are kiri yasuri to the shinogi and o-sujikai to the back edge of the ridge of the shinogi. The tang is very nicely signed Nontonoshi Furuzaw Hachisaemon Yoshimasa.
The blade has a very nice solid silver habaki, finished with a falling rain pattern.
The sword is mounted in period
mounts with namban tsuba, copper fuchi kashira and brass dragon menuki with
green ito. The saya is black with tsunagi.
