Kanemitsu

(Gendai-to) by Seki Kanemitsu

This is a very fine hand forged long blade by Seki Kanemitsu.   He died in 1944.  He was a student of Kosaka Kinbei (Fujiwara Kaneyoshi 1838-1914).  He formed the Zenjo school in Seki with Ogawa Kanekuni, Watanabe Manjiro (Kanenaga) and Niwa Shinjiro (Kanenobu) circa 1907.  The Seki Token Tanren Jo was quite successful and received orders from the prominent families of the times such as the Takatsukasa, Kuroda and Sannomioya who were their patrons.

This sword is very well built, and shows the skill of its maker.  The sword is long and has a nagasa of 70.0 cm or 27 1/2 inches.  It is elegantly signed No Shu Seki ju Kanemitsu Saku and is dated Showa Ju ninen Hachi Gatsu Ka or August 1937.  The sword is shinogi zukuri with a very nice itame hada, iori mune,  long kissaki with a midare boshi and is tempered in a bright and beautiful gunome midare, with long ashi, there is yo and the temper is very well done.  The blade is mounted with a silver habaki, in very good quality shirasaya.  The sword is in very good recent polish.
