Profile written in 2001

Amy Dundas is a talented Canadian rider seeking to represent her country in international show-jumping events. Amy currently trains horses and students at Tadpole Farm in Kamloops, BC.

Amy has been riding since she was 10 years old. At the age of 19, after giving up a promising career as a talented violinist because of a wrist injury, she decided to make a career in show jumping. For several years she taught and rode at Southlands Riding Club in Vancouver, before moving to Kamloops last year with her supportive parents in order to focus more on training and showing. She has become well known throughout Western Canada as a talented, dedicated professional equestrian with broad experience and considerable success in all aspects of equestrian sport. Amy is committed to establishing herself as a member of the Canadian Show Jumping Team.

Amy has represented BC as a young rider in dressage, has bred, trained, shown and sold several young horses in dressage, eventing and show jumping. She has competed and won numerous events at Spruce Meadows, Calgary, against the best horses and riders in North America. On her first trip to Spruce Meadows as a junior/amateur rider she won three out of four classes entered, an almost unheard of achievement. Her most memorable victory was again riding her own horse Fantasia to win the $40,000 ATCO Structures Dual Slalom event at the National Show in June 1994. From 1995-1999 she won two Grand Prix events in B.C. in addition to numerous victories in lower levels of competition riding both her own horses and those of other owners.

In 1999 she was able to put together a limited partnership - the Western Canadian Show Jumpers Limited Partnership - of 20 supportive friends and students to purchase a horse with the potential to take her to international competition. In their first year together, Amy and "Rembrandt" finished up in 7th place in the Canadian Equestrian Federation Talent Squad standings, being the highest placed rider west of Ontario, and 16th place rider in the Jump Canada series. They moved up to and competed successfully in the modified open and open division at Spruce Meadows, finishing second only to Jay Hayes in the modified open Royal Dominion Securities Cup, and finished 9th , the top placing Canadian Rider, in the open Canada Post Express.
