The Iron Crosses

The inspiration for this project came from these pictures from the WarZone Dark Eden rulebook.

I made several large "iron" crosses that look like they were hastily built from all manner of junk, or have decayed over time. I originally planned to have them sit on a hill, true to the fluff in the WarZone Dark Eden book; but I eventually decided against that and opted to make several large crosses, without crucified bodies on them (though I may decide to attach some at a later time using nylon mesh 'barbed wire'). Each cross is individually based so they do more than provide a pretty backdrop for the battle.

I wanted them to be large enough and individual enough for troops to move between them, like an ancient forest of crosses. With individual bases they can be set up on any table from urban to desert (given they will be made from steel, girders, wire, ect...) and will be a really unique and rather creepy thing to move in and out of during a game, providing hard cover and the atmosphere of a sick planet and an even sicker population.

I've completed four of the crosses so far, and from the resulting finished products, I'm allready itching to slap some more together. They look amazing and almost have more character than my customized minis. Small clumps of hard cover never looked so good.

The things that went into these were the standard supplies I usually use, as well as a few experiments and tests that worked great:
