Distortion Chamber

Finally Completed!

This project was inspired by these pictures from the WarZone books.
I wanted to make a Distortion chamber, the twisted procedure where
a normal person is pumped up with dark tech and eaither dying from the pain
and horrors of the trial, or emerging with un-natural strength and
other abilities granted by the dark symetry.

I pictured an altar of some kind, tech(ed) up with all sorts of detail that
would suit the chambers alien construction.
The first problem was the mini...
You can't buy anything close to what I wanted, and I've been getting cheaper
- since moving and becoming unemployed - so I decided to build my own from scratch!

(The fig had to be nude, it looked way too phony any other way.
So you've been warned, don't look if you can't handle reality).
I began with a simple frame of florist wire and packed on the Milliput.
(it is cheap and I've found it works as good, or better, than kneadite -
even for small detail. I've also found its setting time is faster, making progression easier).
The finished, but still unpainted mini, was ready for suspension above
the ground, attached to the machines and chemicals that will change his very being.

As my very first attempt at sculpting a mini I'm extremely pleased at the outcome.
The body turned out in perfect porportion to the scale, and his overly large arms
and legs accentuate the thin to average torso perfectly, giving the exact image of
a man being pumped up with steroids (or worse) and in great pain, his head flung back
and screaming because of it. This mini was also an experiment in skin washes instead
of just drybrushing.

The completed Chamber, waiting for the mini to be painted and attached.
I thought of basing it on another thick card piece, but happily the
corrigated card base never warped significantly and it is fine as-is.
I used a base coat of flat black, drybrushed on Ral Partha "aged steel"
then washed bluish, purplish, and dirty green for the end effect. The wires
were naturally colored, and got a wash of black to make them look grungy.
They may need another wash before the project is complete.
