What is an AFTICAN? During the 2004 WMRC racing season a few of us volunteered our time as corner workers at the Mission Raceway in British Columbia and were also lucky enough to be able to take a few laps around the track. At that point we fell in love with the idea of racing during the 2005 season and Team AFTICA was born. Team AFTICA Racing (Another “Fast” Toy I Can't Afford) racing was formed to feed the need for speed of each team member and we all felt that the track was the safest place to do this. The AFTICA focus: We formed the team for the following reasons: - to provide friendship & support - to help each other with the mechanicals on our race bikes - to provide security for equipment & tools while we’re out on the track - to secure common sponsorship opportunities - to promote “Taking It to the Track” – a perspective that we’ve adopted to promote safer riding by taking speed to the track rather than the public highways And most of all… - to have some fun!

Team AFTICA Racing: Having tasted the thrill of speed in a closed course environment at the track, we are beginning to understand peoples’ “need for speed”. Team AFTICA wishes to promote “Taking It to the Track” as the safer alternative to pushing the limits of you and your motorcycle on the street. With the help of our sponsors, we hope to convey our message to as many street riders as possible while being able to enjoy the sport that has become a significant part of our lives. Although each member of the team is competitive, we are not “Taking It to the Track” for the fame and glory of winning races - we are racing for the love of the sport, camaraderie, improving our skills, and last but not least, fun! However, we would all welcome the opportunity to win! In the spirit of having fun, we asked Amy to organize the Team AFTICA Umbrella Girls. Amy took the “bike by the throttle” and gathered up a group of four young ladies and also designed the shirts and umbrellas. Our lovely ladies have been out to every race since June 2005 and we love to see them out to support the racing scene.
