Revealing Bible Prophecy and Today's Headline News!

Bible Prophecy Comes Alive!

1. The Importance Of Prophecy

Have you been reading the world's Headline News lately? Here are some of the topics capturing our rapt attention today:

Such Headlines ought to interest every Bible student because they speak of Prophecy Coming Alive and being fulfilled before our very eyes. People are realizing as never before that God's Word DOES relate to our generation and interest in the study of prophecy is steadily increasing. We trust these studies will be a help and a blessing to you.

What is prophecy? It was the oral or written message of a prophet. Who is a prophet? He was one divinely inspired by the Holy Spirit to communicate God's Word and to disclose the future to His people. He spoke for God and foretold His plans.

A Word Of Warning - No New Prophets - So Beware!

There are no "New" prophets or prophecies in the world today. All the prophecies that mankind ever needed were divinely proclaimed by the Holy Men of God and written down and divinely preserved in the Holy Word of God. The Office of Prophet was discontinued with the death of The Apostle John. John was the last Holy Spirit inspired prophet of the New Testament era. The Last prophecies God declared are in the Apocalypse, the book of Revelations as revealed to John by Jesus Christ himself and written down by John. The Gift Of Prophecy in the church today is to teach and explain, to prophesy, to be prophesier's (Revealers) of that which was already written.

There are however, thousands of self-proclaimed and publicly acclaimed prophets in the world today. Satan has a whole army of prophets and prophetesses, from every possible religion, cult and schism. New Agers, spiritualists, occultists, gnostics, visionaries, seers, mystics, New Evangelicals, Ecumenicists, Charismatics and many others all claim to hold the office of Prophet.

There are thousands of Supposedly New prophecies being proclaimed every year by people who believe that they have some new universally divine incite into the great beyond or into the thoughts and mind of God. Actually they all work for the Devil and are inspired to deceive, confuse and mislead by Satan himself. Remember Satan and his demons appear as "Angels of Light", performing miracles and lying signs and wonders. Multitudes work for Satan without even knowing it.

"Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart." (Jer:14:14)

Every Prophecy that The True and Faithful Bible Believing Christian needs to know or ever needed to know, have been divinely preserved and written in the pages of your KJV Bible. You need look to no other source, no matter how inviting.

According to Dr. Jack Van Impe, there are approximately, 8,352 verses of prophetic scripture listed in the Bible, containing 1,845 prophecies, all have come to pass except for about 25 major prophecies, that are in the process of being fulfilled or have yet to be fulfilled. Approximately one-third of your entire Bible is Prophecy. You will within all Bible Probability, be seeing the final fulfillment of these last few prophecies taking place within this generation - The Final Generation.

It is God's will for every true believer to understand the declarations that have already been made in His Word concerning things that are to come to pass upon the earth.

Our first reason for studying prophecy is found in 2 Peter 1:19-21, "We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."

*Prophecy Is dependable - Fulfilled prophecy has already provided us with abundant evidence of this "more sure word" of God's power and wisdom. Predictions pertaining to the future are just as certain of coming to pass. God expects His people to believe His Word. The Lord Jesus said to the disciples that walked along the Emmaus road: "O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken" (Luke 24:25).

Dr. Scofield says of this verse, "Hundreds of predictions concerning Israel, the land of Canaan, Babylon, Assyria, Egypt and numerous personages ... have been fulfilled ... by men who were ignorant of them, or who utterly disbelieved them, or who struggled with frantic desperation to avoid their fulfillment. It is certain therefore, that the Scriptures which contain them are inspired."

*Prophecy Is To Be Heeded - "Whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place." Prophecy furnishes light to those who need encouragement. It inspires confidence in the midst of suffering and persecution. To neglect this aspect of the Word of God is not only tragic but inexcusable.

*Prophecy Is A Special Work Of The Holy Spirit - "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." The Divine Author of the Bible directs our special attention to the prophetic Scriptures, and has made provision for our instruction in them, for He is also our Teacher. "Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come" (John 16:13).

How grieved the Holy Spirit must be with believers' lack of interest in these wonderful truths! On the other hand, He delights to encourage, bless and help those who look to Him for guidance and understanding. The deep things of God are revealed to those who want to know them. "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him. But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God" (1 Corinthians 2:9, 10).

In a more general sense, the second reason for studying prophecy is that we are commanded to declare the whole counsel of God which includes prophecy. In 2 Timothy 4:1-4 we read, "I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom; Preach the word; be instant in season (When they like it), out of season (When they don't like it); reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned into fables."

In this command to "preach the word" Paul certainly had in mind the whole message of the Bible. The "word" referred to, of course, is the entire Word of God. No portion is to be neglected or pushed into the background, but today so much is left out:

Of course if the Word is to be preached it must be studied. In 2 Timothy 2:15 we read, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." A Christian's purpose in Bible study is to rightly divide the word of truth that we might distinguish between things that differ. We should be like the Bereans who "received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so" (Acts 17:11). We do not have to look to man for we read in 1 John 2:27, "But the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you."

You and I are living in a world in which the True Holy Spirit of God has been completely crowded out, even by professing believers. We must recognize that we need the True Holy Spirit of God to bring the reality of Christ into our lives. We have hungry hearts, but we will never be satisfied with material things. Some of the most unhappy people are those who have everything that this world offers. What we really need is the rock solid infilling of the True Holy Spirit of God in our lives.

The True Holy Spirit of God must be in the obedient, faithful hearts and lives of all true believers today if we are going to see His blessings, miracles and provisions, be provided for us through the movement of God, my beloved. That's His method, and that's His way.

Materialism and criticism and humanistic philosophy have crowded Him out, yet they bring no happiness into this world. How we need God on the scene, and only the True Holy Spirit of God can make the Lord Jesus real today! That's the reason why we want to study Bible Prophecy and the Person and the work of the True Holy Spirit of God.

God's people have become lazy. Most are just content to go to church and listen to the message but they spend very little time in personal Bible study. God is looking for "workmen" who will study the Bible for themselves allowing the True Holy Spirit to guide them into all truth. Never has there been such an uninstructed generation of so-called believers! Television has taken away the appetite for spiritual things. The mind has become so occupied with the world, the flesh, and the devil, that it cannot be instructed by the Spirit concerning the deep things of God. The mind cannot shift from the carnal to the spiritual realm of God like a car shifts from low to high gear. The Devil has used the influence of Television, the media and worldly things to take control of the minds of many professing Christians and they have lost their spiritual discernment, and burden for the things of God.

As workmen we learn to distinguish between things that differ by "rightly dividing the word of truth." For example, God sets forth the Divine division of mankind in 1 Corinthians 10:32, "Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God." The Bible deals with God's distinct program for each of these groups. Here again we are thrust right into the middle of the study of prophecy which is primarily concerned with the past, present and future of these three groups.

The third and last reason why we are to study prophecy is because it is the source of comfort to all believers. 1 Thessalonians 4:12-18 is a great prophecy of the rapture of the Church. It concludes with, "Wherefore comfort one another with these words." And in John 14:1-3 we read, "Let not your heart be troubled ... I will come again." We are truly living in evil days. The world situation grows more ominous all the time. The problems facing the nations are complex and disturbing. Economic tensions, terrorism, wars, pestelences and diseases, enviromental problems, sin and crime are on the increase. Individuals are distressed and discouraged.

Who has the answer to these problems - Scientists? Educators? Philosophers? Environmentalists? Politicians? Businessmen? Military Strategists? Other World Religions? Certainly not! They have proved to be inconsistent, unreliable, illogical and contradictory.

Praise God we have something far better! The study of prophecy tells us to look away from the world to the coming of our Lord from Heaven. In Him alone is our help and strength. With this to encourage us, let us go to God's Word and find there " ... a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts."

2. The Return of Israel - The Fig Tree is Budding!

The Holy Land is the center of the world's attention. The return of the Jews to Palestine, and Israel becoming a nation are prominent signs of our Lord's return.

God promised this land to Abraham and his seed (Gen. 12:1-3; 13:15-17; 15:5-7). Their occupancy was dependent upon their obedience (Deut. 28). When they disobeyed God they were taken into captivity by the Assyrians and Babylonians. In time they returned only to be expelled again by the Romans in 70 A.D.

It is prophesied in the Word of God how that the heathen would scoff at the land of Israel. Let us read Ezekiel 36: 2,3 and 24, "Thus saith the Lord God; Because the enemy hath said ... Aha, even the ancient high places are ours in possession: ... Thus saith the Lord God; Because they have made you desolate, and swallowed you up on every side, that ye might be a possession unto the residue of the heathen, and ye are taken up in the lips of talkers, and are an infamy of the people ... I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land." So while the enemy may rejoice at having control of the land, God says they will not keep possession of it.

During World War 1 Jerusalem was occupied by the Turks. The British captured the land under the leadership of General Edmund Henry Allenby who was a believer. When he was a boy he was taught to pray for Israel: "Forget not Thine ancient people. Hasten the day when they shall be restored to Thy favour and to their land."

As General Allenby approached Jerusalem with his soldiers he was anxious that the city and land not be destroyed. The night before the attack he spent his time in Bible reading and prayer. God gave him Isaiah 31:5 as the key to victory. On December 11, 1917, he sent wave after wave of his planes flying low over Jerusalem and the Turks fled the city. No bombs were dropped and not a drop of blood was shed. He assembled his troops together and read them Isaiah 31:5 which God had revealed to him as the way to victory: "As birds flying, so will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also He will deliver it; and passing over He will preserve it." Then he said to his soldiers, "Men, this day has this scripture been fulfilled before your very eyes."

Perhaps the next great event unfolding prophecy was the discovery of the most powerful explosive up to that time - T.N.T. Dr. Chaim Weizmann, a Jewish professor of chemistry, had engaged in a research study on the production of synthetic wood alcohol from starch. He donated the discovery to his beloved country - Britain. The nation wanted to honor him but instead he asked that Palestine be made a home for the Jews.

Then on November 2, 1917, Lord Balfour, Foreign Secretary, announced: "His Majesty's Government view with favour the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people." However, it was not to come to pass. Instead of Palestine being given to Israel and set aside as a home for the nation, the Arabs, the direct descendants of Ishmael, were permitted to remain in the land together with the seed of Israel.

Thus we have the story repeated of the tent of Abraham where both Israel (Jews) and Ishmael (Arabs) dwelt together. As long as Ishmael was alone in the tent with Abraham there was no difficulty. But as soon as Isaac was born, the son of promise, God's Word was, "Cast out the bondwoman and her son ..." (Gal. 4:30) for "... in Isaac shall thy seed be called" (Heb. 11:18). At first Abraham refused, but God made it clear to him that Isaac and Ishmael could not live together in the same tent.

In our day we see the experience being repeated. Until the capture of the older part of Jerusalem on June 7, 1967, there were two Jerusalems - the Old City on the east, which belonged to Jordan, and the New City on the west, which had become the capital of Israel. These two parts of the city had been separated by no-man's-land for years.

The six-day Arab-Israeli war in June 1967 was no doubt a significant step forward in the life of the nation and in the progress of Bible prophecy. An astonished world stood by and witnessed the miracle of Israel's victory over tremendous numerical odds.

But God was with them and God brought them victory as in days of old. Great tribulation and sorrow lie ahead for this nation as God deals with them to bring home their guilt in the slaying of their Messiah on Calvary's Cross. However, as God deals in punitive measures with His people, He will not permit any nation to chastise Israel without His permission. "For thus saith the Lord of hosts; After the glory hath He sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of His eye" (Zechariah 2:8).

Of course, one of the most significant events in our whole generation, took place on May 14, 1948. The entire world was electrified when Israel declared its independence and became a recognized nation. Over fifty-five governments have acknowledged Israel as an autonomous state.

Today Israel stands as a full-fledged member in the United Nations.This shows that God is once more moving on behalf of His people. The fig tree is budding. The land is being prepared for the people. The people are being prepared for the land. Soon the people will be prepared for God. *{see our on-line document - "Revealing The Earth's Final Generation"}

The Bible clearly shows that there will be a final regathering of Israel to the land. We currently see a mass Exodus of the Jewish people returning to Israel from all the nations of the world. We see the stage being set and that is why this is one of the most significant signs of the coming of our Lord.

Let us keep in mind the order of events. The Bible clearly teaches that the next great event in God's program will be the Rapture, the catching away of the True Bible Believing Church, made up of both Jews and Gentiles who have been born again. After that will appear the Antichrist, the man of sin, symbolized by Nimrod, Nebuchadnezzar (Babylon), and the Caesars (Rome). He will, first of all, promise to restore Peace and Safety to the nation and to their land. When he has by deception gained their confidence, he will turn upon them in the midst of the Great Tribulation Period, breaking his Peace agreement and repeat the sin of invading and dividing the land. He and the invading armies will then be destroyed by a direct intervention of God at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in great power and glory.

As we see the stage being set for the events of the Great Tribulation we can surely believe that the coming of our Lord draweth nigh. What is our response? "Even so, come, Lord Jesus."

3. The Russian Bear

A man wrote recently that the study of prophecy was too spectacular for him to take any interest in it. There have been sensationalists who have gone beyond the teaching of God's Word, but that does not mean we should neglect the wonderful subject of Bible Prophecy. Any good light will attract a certain number of bugs.

We must never become so discouraged with error that we disregard truth.

The coming of the Lord is not just a doctrine to study nor a theological truth to learn but it is the Blessed Hope of every believer. While we do not know the hour of His coming we believe the time is drawing very near. Jesus said, " ... when ye shall see all these things, KNOW THAT IT IS NEAR" (Matthew 24:33).

The nations, as portrayed in Daniel 2:31-35, are a sign: "Thou, O king, sawest, and behold a great image. This great image, whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the form thereof was terrible. This image's head was of fine gold, his breast and his arms of silver, his belly and his thighs of brass. His legs of iron, his feet part of iron and part of clay. Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces."

Here we have a divine portrayal of the great empires from the time of Nebuchadnezzar until the coming of Christ. Nebuchadnezzar, we are told in verse 38, was the head of gold. The breast and arms of silver represented Persia who under Cyrus conquered Babylon. The belly and thighs of brass represented Greece. The iron legs represented Rome, stronger in power but inferior in moral character to Greece. The two legs speak of the division of the Roman Empire into eastern and western sections. The toes of part iron and part clay represent the revived kingdoms of the Roman Empire which will be in existence when Christ returns. Notice how the metals decrease in quality but increase in strength.

The "stone cut without hands" represents Christ. He will smite these kingdoms and bring them to judgment. As iron and clay will not mix, neither will there be harmony among the nations of the world. Every effort to unite the nations has failed and will continue to fail for iron and clay cannot hold together. The League of Nations failed. The United Nations has been unsuccessful in its efforts to bring lasting harmony out of unrest and division. When Christ comes He will set up His kingdom and only then will "The kingdoms of the world ... become kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever" (Revelation 11:15).

Let us turn to the book of Ezekiel for a study of Israel in the light of our Lord's return. In chapter 37 we have a twofold prophecy. Verses 1-4 portray the national and physical resurrection of Israel. Verses 15-28 present the unity of the nation and speak of the twelve tribes in Palestine during the millennial age.

But there are still many prophecies to be fulfilled concerning Israel before the millennium is ushered in. It is recorded in Ezekiel 38 and 39 that Russia will come down out of the north and do her deadliest work by invading the land of Palestine.

The return of the Jews to the Holy Land is foretold in Ezekiel 38:8, "After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel ..." We are seeing this today.

Ezekiel 38:11 tells us that Israel will return on a non-military basis, " ... thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates."

In Ezekiel 38:12 we read that because of Israel's, religious - political stubbornness and accumulation of wealth, Gog will come upon them "To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land."

In Ezekiel 38-39 we see Russia and her confederation becoming predominant. Gog is the Prince of Russia and the head of the Russian people. Magog is the land of Russia. Meshech and Tubal refer to the two chief cities of Magog, namely Moscow and Tobolsk. (Read verses 1-4).

In chapter 38 verses 2 and 15 we read that this land is in the north. When the Bible speaks of the north it means north of Palestine. This is exactly where Russia is located. Don't forget that this was foretold 2,500 years before Russia existed as a nation. This is another proof of the inspiration of the Holy Scriptures.

Notice how Russia's allies are mentioned in Ezekiel 38:5-6. Persia, which today is called Iraq and Iran, is often in the news. In 1932 Moscow signed a treaty with Persia providing, in the event of war, free access of Russian troops through the land of Persia,to the Middle East and Palestine. Ethiopia, of Cush, adjoins the land of Persia. Libya, which was formerly Phut, is to the south of Russia. Gomer is now Germany, and Togarmah which is Central Asia, has always been the enemy of Israel.

Russia's decision to invade Israel is recorded in Ezekiel 38:10-11, "Thus saith the Lord God; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought: And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates."

Ezekiel 38:16, "And thou shalt come up against My people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against My land, that the heathen may know Me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes."

Ezekiel 38:18-20 we read that God will destroy this wicked northern confederation.

Ezekiel 38:22 tells of God's agencies used in this destruction.

Ezekiel 39:11 we are told that Gog and his multitude of followers will be buried in many graves in Israel.

Ezekiel 38: 12-13: "And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land. Yeah, all the people of the land shall bury them; and it shall be to them a renown the day that I shall be glorified, saith the Lord God."

4. Babylon the Great and Counterfeit Christianity

In Revelation 17:1-7, which should be read carefully, we have a picture of Babylon the Great which is already coming into prominence and power. The scarlet beast here "full of names of blasphemy" is the revived Roman Empire under Antichrist. The great harlot who sits upon the beast is the professing Ecumenical-Ecclesiastical false counterfeit church of the Great Tribulation Period.

In Ephesians 5:23-32 Christ is seen presenting to Himself His glorious bride for whom He gave Himself "That He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word, That He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish" (Ephesians 5: 26-27). In Revelation 19:5-9 we see all heaven rejoicing at the marriage of the Lamb.

In Revelation 17 we have this false counterfeit church system or the church of Antichrist and her doom foretold. The picture here is that of a great whore decked out with all worldly splendor. We see the formation of this church today in the Ecumenical Ecclesiastical movement which is dedicated to forming a "One World" church.

This false professing church, a Counterfeit Christianity and Romanized Babylonian style religious system, described in Revelation 17 is beginning to come together in its final form now. It has been building slowly for well over 3,000 years, having originally started with Nimrod, and the "Tower of Babel" and it will culminate with the reign of Antichrist. The Ecumenical-Ecclesiastical false church is already being upheld by secular governmental powers. It has a certain authority with it as indicated by the Babylonian woman sitting upon the beast.

When Antichrist comes, he will accept the Ecumenical-Ecclesiastical false church for the first part of his reign. After three years the Antichrist will turn against her and together with the ten kings who give their power into his hands, will put an end to the entire system and the whole empire will worship him. (Read Rev. 13:4,15; Rev. 17:16).

There are many throughout the nation who think the Ecumenical-Ecclesiastical movement is a movement of God. Actually it is a movement of the Devil and immediately after the Rapture it will become the church of Antichrist. This simply means that the stage is now being set for Antichrist and his false church.

All who are truly born again ought to discern the true nature of the Ecumenical-Ecclesiastical false church and the Counterfeit Christianity that spawned it.

Let Us Pray Together--

PRAY: "God be merciful to me a sinner. Receive me now for Christ's sake. Cleanse me from my sin by your precious blood, shed on the cross for me; lead me to be Baptized and fill me with your Holy Spirit. Teach me to pray each day; to read Your will for my life from your word, the Bible; and help me to worship and serve You in the fellowship of your church. I thank you Lord Jesus Christ. AMEN!
