Hello Beer Fans, and welcome to this month’s edition of The Monthly Brew, featuring Kensignton Wine Market, Brew Brother’s Restaurant and Pub, Tim’s Random Picks, my opinions on beer and movies and BYOB. This will be my last effort at The Monthly Brew as I am leaving town very soon, however, two local Calgarians, Todd and Brad, who are seasoned veterans of beer publications and experienced beer hunters, have saved The Monthly Brew from extinction. I assure the readers of The Monthly Brew you are in good hands and will continue to enjoy the same quality beer related information you have come to expect.

New in stores you will find, Fuller’s smashing ESB and their London Pride. The ESB is their strongest bitter beer and is regarded as a world classic, while the London Pride is their most popular bitter and at 4.7% ABV it is about 1% weaker than the ESB. Fuller’s also has a third bitter, Chiswick, that is only available on tap in London that is registers just under 4% ABV. Also available is Duckstein, another Alt from Germany. And last but not least, the beer I have been raving about for months, Unibroue’s Terrible, is finally on shelves. This is in my opinion Canada’s best beer hands down, but pick up a bottle and judge yourself.

I have also noticed most places around the city seem to be sold out of the Unibroue 11. If you do spot a bottle you may want to snatch it up as it won’t be around forever.

Around Town: Wildwood’s cask had a bit of a hiatus in August, but will be back in September in full force. For all that are interested the CAMRA (CAMpaign for Real Ale) chapter in Calgary will hold their first meeting of their year September 14th at Brew Brothers. For all of you unfamiliar with CAMRA Calgary, they are a beer social club that holds monthly meetings on various beer subjects and often have beer agents come and give spiels about their beers. It is a relaxed atmosphere and is great place to meet other people who are passionate about beer. No extensive beer knowledge is necessary, just a thirst for the good stuff. Wild Rose has FINALLY got around to bottling their beers and they can be found at a limited number of better liquor stores around Calgary in one-liter bottles. If your local beer store does not carry their product, please bug them to bring it in.
