About the Artist/About the Art
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Lundy Dale was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. She took a break from the west coast and lived and created art in Edmonton, Alberta. In the Summer of 2007, she decided to return home.
Both her parents were artists so it seemed only natural that she would follow in their footsteps. During her art career, she dabbled in all the mediums: sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, painting and, finally, textiles - which she loved but could never achieve the results she was seeking. Her true inspiration came to fruition with her visits to Mexico and in northern Italy. That is when she realized that tile and mosaics were to be her medium of choice. Lundy produced her first mosaic/tile art piece in late 2001, just after her trip to Italy. She has a B.F.A. degree from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, B.C., Canada but her training in mosaics and tile work is self-taught.
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
"My love for mosaics and tile truly started as a little girl. I would visit my mother at where she was employed as a mosaic mural designer and installer. I would sit with her and help fill in the coloured glass tiles. Those experiences were the closest I ever had to any formal training in mosaic technique.
To this day, those are some of my fondest memories and, with my mother's passing away, I believe that she would be very happy to see me go back to her art roots."

ABOUT THE ART
Tile and mosaic artist Lundy Dale combines one of her favourite pastimes - gardening and her love of flowers, dragonflies and ladybugs to produce her one-of-a-kind whimsical and colourful pieces. She applies elements of a vibrant colour palette using a mixed medium of glass and hand-painted ceramic tiles, which are then painted with porcelain paint and then bonded together with colourful grout. The pieces are then framed in either a wood, metal or glass mosaic to unify the art piece.
