The History of Timbo's Christmas Songbook

My family loves to sing.  As I was growing up, with every Christmas came two or three good "Christmas sing-song" sessions in our living room, with all the local relatives, the neighbours, and whoever happened to be in town at the time.   Usually with my Dad on guitar, and sometimes with Nikki and Carlin on piano or guitar, the house was filled with music, though admittedly not always on key.  And if it wasn't too cold out, we'd often put on our warmest clothes, and go singing door-to-door while trying to read our song-sheets by feint candle light.

The only wrinkle in this idyllic Kamloops Christmas picture is that everyone had different words for the songs.  The songsheets we had were a collection of newspaper inserts from the Kamloops News and the Kamloops Daily Sentinel that my Mom had collected over the years.  Each one contained a different selection of carols, with a good deal of variance in the verses and lyrics of songs which appeared in more than one songsheet.

And so every year my Mom would say how she really should make up some real Christmas songbooks, with all the Christmas carols and at least all having the same words.  In 1995, I decided to take on the job of compiling a definitive Christmas Songbook.  Well, an attempt at definitive - something that would keep my family happy anyway.  Six months later, after many trips to various libraries, research on the Internet, and a lot of typing, editing, and proof-reading, Timbo's Christmas Songbook emerged.
