My Writing Background

I've been interested in writing fiction since grade 8 -- 25 years ago. From then until a couple of years into university, where I was studying Engineering Physics, my creative tendencies were absorbed by Fantasy Role Playing Games (FRPGs). At that time, I decided to switch faculties and enter the Creative Writing program in Fine Arts. However, the powers-that-be had other plans and my application was rejected. I continued my Engineering program and received my Bachelor's degree.

The muse would not quit, however, and I began writing and submitting short pieces to FRPG related magazines. That's where I learned how to deal with rejection.

My current work is still mostly in the fantasy genre, though my scope has shifted from FRPGs to include a wide variety of short stories, poems, and a novel or two. Right now I'm focussed on writing a humourous fantasy novel while trying to find publishers for some of the shorter things I've written. I've also dabbled in the mystery genre, though fantasy is still my primary interest. Other things I've had some success with in the past include greeting cards and non-fiction.

My Family

My family is the most important part of my life. Without them, I would probably cease to exist. My wife is a stay-at-home mom doing a fabulous job at the most important task in the world: raising our children. My sons are aged 10 and 6, and they both consider me to be their favourite toy. My daughter is just 3 years old, but if you look really close at her little finger, you can already see me wrapped tightly around it.

My Hobbies

What with my full-time job, my family, and my writing, who has time for hobbies? Actually, I do manage to squeeze in a few other interests, including geocaching, wood working, and making chainmail armour (yes, by hand, and yes, it takes forever). I also enjoy a number of other crafts, and I still like to play computer games now and then.
