The National Retriever Club of Canada

The Brandon Retriever Club is proud to host the 2000 National Open Championship and at the same time celebrate the 50th anniversary of the National Retriever Club of Canada. The Club has hosted an annual licensed field trial for over 40 years and has hosted previous National championships in 1964, 1976, 1988 and 1996. LOCATION

Brandon Retriever Club proposes to hold all tests on or near their trial grounds located approximately 10 miles south of Brandon on all weather roads. Grounds Number 1 consists of ponds in a variety of sizes. All have been developed specifically for field trial testing. Most ponds have points and islands and running mounds are strategically placed to accommodate in and out entries from pond to pond. Cattails surround the ponds with grass in the areas between the ponds.

Number 2 Grounds has both land and water ponds. The land consists of an alfalfa field and the water on these grounds is again sculptured ponds with lots of elevation around them. Grounds number 3 is a 1/4 section of rolling hills, hay land, with trees and shrubs scattered throughout. It is also the location of the clubhouse and campgrounds.

Water levels have been consistently high over the last five years and are anticipated to remain so for the next year. In the past eight years a great deal of work has gone into developing the ponds on all properties. The areas are typical of the hunting conditions in Southern Manitoba.
