The Ottawa Retriever Club has a membership of approximately 20 enthusiasts of which many are active field trial participants.  The club has hosted an annual licensed trial for over 30 years and was pleased to have previously hosted the 1997 National Retriever Championship.  The Ottawa Retriever Club is excited and proud to have been selected by the National Retriever Club of Canada to host the upcoming 2004 National Amateur Field Trial Championship to be held from July 19th to July 24th, 2004.

Location

The event will be held in the beautiful Lanark Highlands of Ontario.  The Lanark Highlands are known for it's rolling hills, lush meadows and fields, sparkling lakes and fresh rivers.  It's quaint villages, bustling towns and non-stop festivities await visitors. The trial headquarters will be located at the Agricultural Hall in McDonalds Corners located approximately 10 minutes from the village of Lanark and approximately 20 minutes from the Town of Perth. The Town of Perth is nestled along the Tay River about one hour west of Ottawa on Highway 7 and approximately one hour north from Kingston (see region map , area map and town map).

Transportation

Highway 7 is the main link to Perth which connects with several other major routes. There are several good highway routes extending south to New York state in the US.  Ottawa’s international airport provides service to and from all major Canadian and US cities.  Car rentals are also available at the airport from the major North American car rental agencies.

Climate

In this region of Southern Eastern Ontario in July, you can expect average temperatures of 15 to 30 degrees Celsius (58 - 86 F).  In summer the days are generally sunny hot, humid and long. Winds are typically out of the south west and weekly precipitation varies.

An official motel has not been designated for the National Amateur. There are however three recommended motels located side by side and competitors and spectators are encouraged to book early due to upcoming events in the area.
